Crashing before character select, error 1017

Here's what Im running EQ on :

Dell Studio XPS 435
Processor: Intel Core i7
Ram: 4G of DDR3 RAM
Video card: ATI Radeon HD 4850
OS: Vista (SP2) 64-bit
ISP: Hughesnet (Satellite uplink @ 1.6 mbps)
Router: Linksys E1000

Okay so here is my problem, I ran P99 on this rig before when I had comcast as my ISP, I have been without net for 3 months, now I just got satellite net in my new location and try to login, I get to server selection, select P99 and and the screen goes black I see the in-game cursor on the black screen and it can be moved about, then I crash about 20-40 secs later and it places me back at the station login, when I log back to server selection I get the error 1017:

"Connot login to the everquest server. You may need to re-run the update patch. Repeatedly seeing this message indicates a loss of connectivity to the patch server. This is usually temporary."

Anyone know whats causing this error? please get back to me if you have any advice or questions about my problem. Thank you for your consideration. I have read everything I could find on the forums relating to error 1017 and it hasnt been much help thus far.

Do your pings to eqemulator.net look good or do they jump all over the place, or are they otherwise high in general?

Well thats some new advice, How do I check my ping to server? is there a program I can DL to monitor it?

Ping Report

Ping reports back as ( Min: 719ms Max: 906ms Average: 784ms )
4 packets sent/4 packets recieved, anyone know how that rating is for ping?

mine from work is min 116 max 124, at home i think it is more like 79...

also, if it's been a while since you logged in you may be affected by some ip changes:

After the next patch, the IP for the servers will be changing. This is a notification so that anyone with outbound firewall rules can adjust them accordingly.

Our new IP Range is as follows:

67.23.190.75 (Worldserver; Ports 9000, 7000-7200)
67.23.190.76 (Zoneserver; Ports 7000-7200)
67.23.190.77 (Zoneserver; Ports 7000-7200)
67.23.190.78 (Beta/Test; Ports 9000, 7000-7200)

Also, EQEmulator Loginserver will be changing soon, to:
67.23.190.71 (Port 5998)
(should also check if your eqhost file has eqemulator.net vs an IP)

Do we have to change "eqemulator.net" to "67.23.190.71"? And so the final eqhost file should look something like:

[LoginServer]
Host=67.23.190.71:5998

Eqemulator.net is the better value, in case they change the ip again later. I was trying to say to check your host file to make sure there wasn't the old ip in it.
