The memory could not be read...
 

I keep getting the same error as has been detailed numerous times on these forums however none of the proposed fixes have worked.

I log into the game, reach server selections, choose the appropriate server and load about 7% I to the character select screen before the game crashes with the all too familiar " the instruction at xxxxxxxxxxx referenced memory at xxxxxxxxxxx. The memory could not be read".

I have tried all of the different screen resolutions access through the options menu at the login screen.

I have tried to modify the eqclient.ini file.

Any help would be appreciated. Running i5, 8 gigs memory and 570gtx card.

I was able to run the game approximately a year ago without issue although I was running win7 and not 8.1 at the time.

Try Reseating your RAM on your MOBO.

Try Memtest and see if you have a bad memory module.

Thats bad advice and you should feel bad for giving it. This issue is related to display resolution. There does not appear to be any hard fix. You just have to keep playing with it until you find a combination that works for your PC.

win 8.1 screwed up my pc.

fps went down almost 50%

Rollback from 8.1 to 8

Windows 8.1 has a lot of issues, particularly related to Project 1999.
