Unable to use chat
 

Okay this is driving me a little nuts...

My enter key will not work in the game.

to send a tell i have to go into the social box and type it out, hit accept, then hit that button. It's the only way i can talk to anyone.

this is what I've eliminated so far...

its not number lock
my enter key works outside the game
i tried full screen and windowed screen still doesn't work
i tried function + enter nada

ANY ideas anyone has would be greatly appreciated.

Are you using the default UI or a custom UI?

First thing I'd do is backup the INI files in your EQ folder.
Then in game, go to the Options menu > Keys and press Reload Default.

If that doesn't work, it could be another program (like Media Control) interfering with EQ. Try disabling programs you're not really using.

Tried that didn't help ...

I opened task manager but dont see anything called media control. (using windows 7)

Also try:
In the EQ folder, there is a file named keyboard.txt. Delete it and repatch.

Does your keyboard has an "F Lock" (or fn) key? Is it turned on?

Num lock isnt it.

everytime i hit function it doesnt work and if i hit function + enter my calculator opens up and the game crashes.

I deleted the keyboard text but it didn't help.

How do i patch that one file without patching rest of game?

do things like your ' key and stuff work ingame? If not you need to go into your device manager and disable any mediadevices or controllers. Forget what actual names in device manger would be. Guessing you are using a laptop?

Yeah thats what i was trying to get at. But there are other drivers that affect it other then the ones nilbog listed. This is actually a issue i use to see all the time on live's tech support. Alot of laptops have the built in remotes that also effect it due to the windows media center.

You might want to make sure that "Enter" isn't bound to do something else in your options -> keys.

EDIT:

Also, try using '/' to open the chat, it's how I use mine such as "/s hello" or "/g yes". '/' seems to start the chat prompt as well.
