An uncommon (sarcasm) conundrum

I have just started on this server and have 2 characters of whom I like equally.

My issues is lvl 50+ usefullness (as that is my plan)

My 2 classes are Necro (gnome) lvl 12 and Warrior (halfling) lvl 6

Now I know tanks are always needed but I also wanted to see if there was a positive argument to be made for the necro as I have such fun playing it.

I dont want to simply be a mana battery.

Thanks!

The two classes with consistent demand in endgame raids are rogues and wizards. If you aren't one of those, you can probably still have a lot of fun. If you're concerned about raid utility, talk to your guild.

Necros can do reliable dabage with little cleric attention needed due to lifetaps. Warriors can tank and do half-decent DPS.

Here is the thing about raiding and usefulness in the end game - nearly every class in a large raid is relegated to doing 1 thing repeteively. Warriors (unless MT) mash the enemy, Rogues attack and backstab, Necros give mana and send their pets in etc... There might be more situational intricacies involved with how you get there but you WILL be assigned a role and expected to carry it out for the duration.

Now that that is out of the way, consider your playstyle and the time available to you. You've chosen two classes that are completely different from eachother with one requiring groups and the other being the benchmark soloing class - this is all on personal perference at this point. Admittedly I am biased towards Necro due to their power at later levels but you have to play what you like otherwise you WILL regret it.

The main point is to enjoy the journey which you can do with both classes equally.

Play the class that you have more fun with. You'll burn yourself out playing a class you don't like just to be more "useful".

Why does everyone who has a Warrior think they are even going to be the Main Raid Tank or even the fifth?? Ain't happening. Unless you start your own guild and be the MT you are shit out of luck. End of story. Play your Necro and be happy.

I actually didnt say raid, I have no illusions that I will be a MT people here have a 3 year head start on me, but end game is not all raiding and 50+ there is a lot of content to be farmed by groups

Aerar 10-29-2013 05:21 PM

My point is more simply 50+ id like to not have a massive problem getting in groups

Another couple benefits to the necro is fd capability and (currently) the prenerf cos, you have a bit more ability to survive/evade aggro

not to mention the soloing aspect, imo casters are fun because they are more versatile, and in the case of a necro you get alot of capabilities* as opposed to just being a tank (dots, mana battery, pet, fd, undead slows, necro ghetto mez, fear)

My apologies - I thought your mana battery comment was implying a boring raid scene.

Necros are hella fun and have excellent grouping capabilities but do not forget that the grand majority of your spells (with the exception of life and mana dealing spells) are for your own personal gain. The only real thing that "stacks" in the game is DPS so for what its worth, you will either be DPSing or giving life/mana away to bump your healing/dps needs to max.

Again, if you like the class then stick with it. You will get burned out by 54 on a class you don't like.

Just remember that the journey to max level is extremely long compared to most MMO's and for most people, it will be the majority of their playing time.

Don't get concerned about which classes are needed at 50+. Play what you find the most fun!
