can't change eqhost login

I've tried changing the Login under eqhost multiple times without success. When I installed this on my laptop, with Vista, I had to change the adminstrator. I'm running windows 7 on my main system, but when I alter the eqhost file and try to save, it reports "Access Denied." I've altered the adminstrator to allow me full control and still not able to save the changes, any ideas?? I think I'm at my wits end here, any help would be appreciated!

Attempt to do this in safe mode on your computer. If that doesn't work, you may want to ensure you have full administrative rights on the local machine. It looks as if the issue is with the permissions. You can attempt to disable UAC control via settings.

Let us know what you find and what doesnt work.

Ok, I ran into the same problem. Windows 7 has a somewhat annoying permissions rule where you can't edit program files. I'm trying to remember what I did. It was something like this:

Copy the eqhosts file to another location (like Desktop).
Delete the original file.
Make your edit of the file at other location (i.e. Desktop).
Copy the file back into the everquest directory.

If that doesn't work, say so and I'll try to figure out exactly what I did on my Windows 7 machine at home.

Ladies and Gentlemen, let me thank you for you lightning quick responses. I copied the file to my desktop, opened it and proceeded to edit it while deleting the one on the desktop. I then saved it and then took that copy and reinserted it into the EQ file. All is well! Thanks again for the advice, truly life savers!!!

Next time, go into All Programs, go into Accessories, Right click notepad and select run as administrator (even if your account is admin already), go into file, open and navigate to your eqhost.txt file. Change it. and your done.

i'm trying to install on a new laptop and having this exact issue. Neither of these solutions worked though, because even after going to accessories/notepad and then granting all administrative rights, it refused the change with the all so redundant
*Access Denied*. I also tried creating a shortcut on my desktop of the file, then deleting the original and changing the one on desktop, but when I click to open the desktop, it won't open without prompting me to restore my original file.....Any clues here, i'm at a loss???

I just drag the file out of the eq folder to desktop and then I am able to save it. Then drag it back in the eq folder.

Type notepad into the run window, when the notepad application is listed under the Programs menu above, right click it then click Run as Administrator. Then in that notepad open the file.
