Computer protection

I have been using norton on my computer for over fifteen years. I have some program booting and other lag issues that I attribute to that program.
Often I want to cancel them and get something less invasive.
Without all the rants and flames that this forum is known for, what do you champions of Norath suggest?
Not that I'm free from throwing flames or going on rants on occasion, just, not this time please.

I use Windows Defender and don't do anything or browse anywhere that could cause an infection. I learned that lesson long ago lol.

Probably not the solution you're looking for, but I switched to Linux years ago, and now I don't even have to think about viruses.

Before that, I used Avira's free anti-virus (free-av.com), and it worked great ... but it no longer seems to exist :(

I used Linux for a bunch of years. When that computer went away, I didn't have the nerdosity anymore to put Linux on this windowz 10 computer.

Pretty much this - also consider using a pihole or noscript add-on.

Noscript also gets you around 99% of news paywalls. You can just flip it on and off for that purpose.

i typically put a condom on before i go balls deep in some internet trash

Was it Norton or McAfee that got caught out making viruses?

Based on that as well as how invasive they are on your computer, is it time to stop subscribing?

don't click links that say "penis enlargement" or "hot single milfs in your area"

unsunghero 02-28-2023 05:44 PM

I use free AVG but pretty sure it is taking a fat shit on my processing power

Does occasionally catch stuff though when I try to pirate stream something on PutLocker or one of those
