Top Gun was huge dude. It was a phenomenon. It's the movie that catapulted Tom Cruise to stardom, and was the only movie where Kelly McGillis was hot.

I desperately wanted to be a navy fighter pilot after that movie, but the navy wanted me in the nuke program on a sub and I declined. I think that movie did more for recruitment than anything but WW2 itself.

Weren't even born when it came out, that explains it. It's like those idiots who think Frodo and Sam were homo for each other while smoking weed and doing mushrooms.

It's one thing to admit to liking Top Gun in 1986, if you were under 16-ish at the time, but to still consider it even remotely good in 2014 is... weird. The movie was so vacuous and insubstantial, like some stupid overlong propaganda music video. The fact that it pushed Cruise so high says a lot. In retrospect, practically all of Cruise's movies have this sort of seeding.

The gayness of it is quite different from Sam and Frodo and much more blatant. Not that there's anything wrong with that. The only reason most people didn't catch it back in the day is because we, as a society, were completely closeted and ignorant.

Sam and frodo gay stuff are almost completely a directorial construct. The books were more of a batman/alfred sort of thing. Fuck Sam got married.

Its supposed to be a mirror to the whole gollum relationship.

I really loved topgun and still do. All I can picture is that darkened love scene over and over in my head like a tape on repeat in brainstorm.

Except Tom Cruise is way the fuck hotter now that he's older ;) :D
