Team PvP will end up the same as red PvP, and it will end up even more stupidly balanced. The Nihilum guys will roll onto one team, some of the Azrael guys will roll onto another team, and that will account for 70% of the players on the server. A few who roll on the 3rd team will get bored, be PK'd, and reroll onto one of the teams with more than 20 players. With the current pop, all that teams will accomplish is limiting people from grouping a necro and a paladin. And that is even assuming that people are willing to reroll.

The server is in a pretty decent state at the moment, all things considered. There are 30v30s every week and two "end game" guilds that have the activity and gear to raid. I really expected some higher activity after the last patch, but there has barely been an uptick. This teams thing is just another fix it fantasy. Global OOC didn't fix it. YT didn't fix it. Taking away XP loss didn't fix it. Well, splitting 150 pop between 2 servers won't fix it either.

If you like EQ, just play this one and see how it goes. When we are looking at an active pop of over 400, then maybe start talking about teams.

While I don't disagree with your thought process here, I think you're underestimating the draw of a new server regardless the rule set. Assuming they follow the progression timelines they have on the Red and Blue servers, or mirroring live, you'll have a lot of people who will want to get their hands on a manastone, guise or prenerf fungi staff, etc.

Even if they don't and release it with all ex-pacs on the current timeline, people will still come at first. New servers are ALWAYS packed. That goes for any game and always has. The key is to merge just as people as the server is losing lots of people, merge with Red and hopefully pick up another 100-150 people at peak time. Even if it pulled 10% of the blue population you'd still nearly double the current PVP peak time population, if you can pick up another 20-30 players on average who will come back for teams that aren't currently playing that would be great too.

The teams rule set is just better for EQ than RZ style. EQ is a PVE game no matter how you slice it, and PVP is heavily dependent on gear. Mixing a little blue in will only help keep people around.

R99 was packed at launch too. Your idea that new servers are good because they are packed is moot because there only packed because it is new and once it isn't new a lot of people leave.

r99 can't be packed past launch because it's stupid ffa. The casuals you need for the server to have any kind of decent population past launch need teams to survive. Now if the server having a decent population is not important to you keep playing on ffa.

So go through all the trouble of starting up a new server so that a few people, who have already not been willing to hang with the PvP crowd, can play for a month to maybe get legacies, and then quit back to blue.

EQ isn't fair and people have this fantasy that a reset will make it fair again. Well, you know all those players who never log off? Those people won't suddenly have a job when teams launches. Remember when Nihilum leveled 51-60 in a week after Kunark launched and most of the rest of us were like 52 or 53? The same exact thing will happen, it will just be 20 people from the XYZ team who put in an 80 hour week of EQ and the casuals will quit since they can't their manastone in time. Hell, it will probably be worse because the random garbage on here can at least hang their heads in shame after months of sh*t talking and app Nihilum to get on the gravy train for a while. On a teams server they would have to fully reroll.

As much as I *personally* prefer teams to ffa as an ex SZ player, I just have no clue where the players are going to be for a new server. All this teams talk is doing is making people reluctant to actually play the game that is here because a handful of people want some sort of "fair" restart. Keep in mind as well that you are also talking about opening team99 at near the same time as TESO and WildStar, both of which will be heavily marketed and may be worthwhile.
