He had apparently assaulted soldier friends of his multiple times in the past believing them to be saying what the voices were saying

I’m thinking how the fuck was this dude able to serve in the military while actively hallucinating? Aren’t they supposed to try to avoid taking people with serious mental illness, or was recruitment just that low?
