Why can't more players have Fastboy21's attitude about the server lol.

Imo, it is not that using maps is evil, or weak, or anything else, other than, this is not our server. This is an actual, real -- gasp -- gm'd server. We play on a pretty decent *free* persistent playground, and the people who run it have a right to set teh rules, and we get to enjoy then how this all plays out.

And integral to the idea of this server is restricting or at least being very careful about 3rd party programs that would run alongside the game. I would be more put off than I am about the raid scene (!) if I found out, for example, boxing and mq'ing were being secretly tolerated.

I mean, we are trying to create what many would call "living hell" here. No cheating.

You can backtrack, and if you target a static mob at a crucial crossroads, in a maze-y or forest-y area, it serves as a verification, yes, you are back at that crossroads. See what i mean? It's doesn't lead you back; it verifies you are back.

edit: of course, we all know the best way to learn a zone:

Just FYI the response of GM Derubael was in regards to the map app/p99-patcher I put together, which runs the map display in a web browser tab (thus still requiring tab out of game).

Norrath Map took it a step further and created a game overlay (to which no one responded until now).

There was a mapper previous to Norrath Map, called EQMap. It did the same as Norrath Map, except it wasn't "always on top." I forget the name, but they okayed that one, too.

When I started again on P99 - on my first day I lost my corpse in gfay and had to have a bard take me to it. I realised the necessity of "sense heading"... 5 levels later.
Your skill in sense heading has improved! (200)
After 20 levels I'd exit pod lift, run in a straight line and end up right at the BB zone canyon.
Back in 2000 on live, we used to print off hard copies of maps from alakazam.
These days I pop open http://wiki.project1999.com/Zones on my tablet and access maps from there.

You must use printed maps in a binder! Shits classic.

I remember my mom taking me to the stationary store to buy school supplies and I added that I "needed" graph paper.

(I could always find a binder and a three hole punch on my father's desk.)

<sigh> Good Times

Funny enough i remember most zones fine. I still get lost in BW sometimes and get scared I'll run face first into my swarm. ...dang trees!
