It was a very unique zone where the devs actually nailed the "theme" of the plane (mischief). There were tons of riddles and strange shit, and the loot took ages to create. It was a labor of love where players would solo PoM for months to finally make an item or discover something new. It was one of the few zones that made you think and experiment instead of just autoattack your way to victory. Unfortunately, the zone was never 100% complete, some things still remain mysteries and only 8 sets of class armor were made (priests, casters, and monks). Even those sets sometimes had a missing piece iirc.
If you ever played Winter's Roar (Shards of Dalaya), Rivervale is a very similar zone and I feel they were trying to capture the essence of Plane of Mischief there. Lots of strange NPCs, dialogues, and loot, with an extremely difficult questline to try to piece together. Very many ways to accidentally die. The zone, like PoM, had an "atmosphere" and life of its own.
I spent a long ass time in that zone and never got very far, was sad to recently see that the entire questline is solved and available on the wiki for anyone to complete. I got stuck on the "hand a random item to a random NPC" stage. :(
