"Classic" is what the developers wanted to make, and that is ending at Velious. The word is essentially meaningless

The game morphed quite a bit visually, gaemplay-wise, and its overall feel. Luclin feels like a spin-off rather than logical progression of Classic > Kunark > Velious which all felt connected to each other. Change in dev teams was palpable.

The lead artist (Milo Cooper) also left after Velious. He did all of the models in 'classic' EverQuest.
