I played at release. It's still classic travel.

I remember seeing a high level wizard once in Qeynos Hills. Right after server up. He gated out shortly after.

I ran two half-elves from Qeynos to Kelethin because porters weren't plentiful. That's classic at launch travel. Having to run yourself. Banking all your gear and money except for some food, water and a rusty weapon.

But if that's classic travel to people they basically are saying "no, I don't want to have the option to take a PoK book, instead I want to annoy someone to take time out of their day to save me a long run".

Agree with Daldaen.

Are you involved in the TAK project? I loved EQ Mac, and wish I would have played it more.

Books were a really big help for noobs...but they honestly didn't help all that much when you looked at the expansion continents. You still needed a Druid/Wiz or a lot of running to get way out into Kunark, Velious, and Luclin. A book could drop you at specific places in these zones, but you usually had to hoof it afterwards to get to Seb, WW, Ssra, etc.

Yea I'm on there occasionally. Was on there before they wiped closed alpha and I tested a few things but I'd like to test more. Mac was indeed the shit. Classic client/code and best expansion as the final one. You couldn't get more perfect. Really wish they'd Rez it and charge subscription.

I would love to see this. The only time I ask for a port is when travel requires a boat. Call me crazy, I love running through Kithicor at night to get to HHP, and I love running through the Karanas stopping at the various camps that drop item loot to give away to noobs in BB and QHills.

In a way though, I wouldn't mind seeing wiz and drui ports disabled for a week, then I could turn my anon/rp off and camp in peace :D

But other than that, the post was blather...
Launch state doesn't matter etc. This is classic, not eternal launch, and not instant travel for sure. The world is still big here and people are more inclined to stay in one place for a time and socialize as they hunt rather than ping ponging form place to place.

That's too bad. PoP raiding was amazing.

Look, I like PoP, but I don't like the PoK books. Its a reasonable opinion to have. You don't agree. Fine. I'm not saying anyone should be annoyed about anything. Besides, some of your porter bretheren would be very happy to be annoyed by paying customers. And also, in the very early days I used to run people from Qey to FP for tips, I know all about what you are calling classic travel.

I would play on Grand Creation (and i'm sure a lot of others would too) if there was a no-boxing rule.

Well, there were some guilds in there that were anti-multibox. Not everyone multi-boxed and there was quite a bit of controversy over too many people multi-boxing. The years I played on the server, from launch to... still once in a while, I was about 50% of the time multi-boxing (most often with my druids), and that usually only with two characters, duoing and sometimes grouping with other players.

Server is pretty much empty now, so doesn't matter much anyway. I'm talking years ago... five, six, eight years ago. It's been pretty quiet there for some years. I never multi-boxed on live, played for six years there before going to the emu, but I did in UO live at the time while I had my EQ sub going. So really, it just doesn't matter, it's not like 1k+ logged in there any longer, you will hardly see anyone let alone get griefed by a train of multi-boxed bards hah.

None of the other servers have any pop.

Yeah they do, during peak. Couple or few @ ~200+ and/or on weekends. It's not like p99 is maxed out like any of the original live servers anyway, just too many people consolidating in a few select zones here. But there has been largely a pop shift to p99 leaving far less players on the other servers as it used to be. But "none having any", not a true statement.
