Brown adipose tissue is something I've been looking into recently. It's primarily cold activated (or from over feeding), and it burns off energy from regular white adipose tissue for fuel when you're shivering. 10-15 mins of shivering or several hours at <60 F a day can significantly increase the body's metabolism, around 200-400 calories a day. That's pretty cool. Haaa

Apparently this pathway is way more efficient at glucose transport vs insulin. We lose it as we get older, but cold exposure is supposed to help increase it.

I was outside walking for an hour recently at 24 F, and I noticed I was absolutely exhausted the next day with bad muscle fatigue from holding my shaver and getting dressed. Think I tanked my glycogen while I was out freezing. I'm wondering if controlled outdoor cold exposure and cold showers might be a good way to accelerate weight loss and maybe reverse my mom's diabetes to some extent.

Looks like capsaicin, resveratrol, green tea, tumeric, and Omega-3 support BAT.

I went climbing yesterday with a couple of work pals. We stuck around longer than I usually would. Consequently I have a little soreness in in the shoulders and wrists (fingering).

Would a gentle swim today aid or hinder recovery?

back home from deployment. was spoiled with my gym overseas. I registered for a Gold's membership and have been twice now. hate it. first, its 95% machines. One legit squat rack and two weird Life Fitness racks that are covered in rubber and just awkward. First day, I walk to one of these racks and make a few notes in my notebook to adjust from KG to LBS (there are no metric weights at this gym) since i've been running a powerlifting program usings metric. 45 seconds of writing, some old roided man who chooses not to move his arms when he walks says "are you exercising or not bro?" Second day i work out there, I'm at the rack in between DL sets and theres another roided up dude on a cable machine who after every small set he does, takes off his headphones and looks around at everyone, shaking his head at people for, i guess their technique? and talking outloud to no one. chicks are hot though.

my new town has no boxing/muay thai gyms so i may just stick it out for find some garage lifting gym

Can confirm aids. Also kicked a woman out of the steam room who had fallen asleep there. Yeesh, what a death wish. It did prompt me to realise I’ve never seen an attendant checking steam rooms or saunas for people overstaying / in difficulty.
