OP, to answer your question, when Green launched they stated that if you have more than 8 chars between the two servers on the same account, when they merged you'd only see the first 8 characters (I believe it's in alphabetical order). In order to access the additional characters, you'd have to delete some of the 8 characters that were shown on the character select screen. This was a limitation with the Titanium client IIRC.

Who knows if they'd be able to code a workaround in. Point being at the time of launch (and today still I believe) it's unknown if that would be possible so it's better to make sure you're not creating, say, more than 4 characters on Blue and more than 4 on Green on the same account.

Transferring characters to other accounts could get spicy.

How would you even deal with the issue if duplicate names. Cannot just add a letter because people can and in many cases will deliberately take them. And the staff sure as hell isn't going to allow name changes for hundreds if not thousands of characters.

basically just the starcraft way of naming goes fairly easily... each account gets a 4-8 digit set of numbers so an infinite amount of jimjams can flood the server. :rolleyes:

They already solved that upfront. You can only use a name on the other server if you make the character on that same account.

So for instance if you have your account name JayDeeP99Account and on Blue you have Jaydee as a char name, no one can go on Green and make Jaydee. The only way to make Jaydee on Green at that point is to log into JayDeeP99Account and make the char. Then when they merge they just add the X to the end of your Green char's name.
