I would agree with you for any item outside of /list. But if a /list option is created and you are forced to stay at the desk because of afk checks then it is not so much people obsessed over a certain loot to the point that it seems to ruin their experience.
It is a system that makes getting that item into an unhealthy choice. Without list I could duo them and cycle resting with a friend. I could do it as a guild and put in the hours to get my turn. I could wait in line and sleep while person 1-5 get theirs and do some work from home. There are a lot of ways to go about it. But this system doesn't allow that. You are forced to be there. And you have to actively be there to click the afk check even if you are no where close to being your turn. You can't move outside the camp without losing your spot.
The /list worked for the jboots. Still a grueling 11-25 hour camp that not everyone is going to be willing to do.
But if manastones are forcing people to actively be at their computer for over 30 hours, then it is crossing a dangerous line. The sunken cost fallacy and sleep deprivation each by themselves are dangerous for people but you combine them together and you get really poor choices being made.
Something needs to change for it. Either allow each afk check to add dkp and after a certain point you get it, or people with the most afk checks clicked to go to the front of the line, or increase the spawn, or increase the drop rate. Or take it off the /list and let us manage it ourselves. Or remove it.
