The game looks like shit

Classic eq has great art but bad graphics. These days it's more often bad art with good graphics. I have to say I don't put too much weight into their current art asset list. This is a pretty costly and time intensive aspect of game building. If they can deliver fun core game play that is what's most important.

If someone wants to buy me a couple years subscription I'll roll what ever class they want me to.

I'm sure a lot of you know a lot more than I do, but I'm so jaded at mmorpg's. I just do not see how they can generate a sub-based game with sufficient numbers to sustain the investment of time/money. Unless they go the Eve route of one server-one gameworld, where is the audience?
Everyone is too spread out these days imho. The D&D model (and that is the model) = significant time investment for players, and there just are not as many neckbeards as there used to be. I would love to be proven wrong, but pay-to-play, microtransactions, and especially, DOTA style games seem to be all the gamers today really want to deal with. Not enough people want to spend 6 months carefully building a High Dwarf Cattle Charmer, or whatever. |

Of course new games are failing. They fail to even understand what made this genre great, and that goes for Blizzard as well. Even their own devs and former devs admit they have moved too far away from the original game. so naturally none of these games can survive, because they don't provide a game that is either capable or worth investing time into on a long term basis. That was what EQ gave us. I haven't seen it since. When someone uses that harder teamwork based model again that makes your achievements memorable, they will gain a captive audience and people will pay for it... every month. |

The DND model is the best and truest form of RPG. They aren't spending a year finely crafting a raid toon so they can do end game exclusively, they're playing the game. Too many people these days lose sight of that. They forget that there's an entire game there to be played and just rush to end game. Its the spirit of the thing. |
