You forgot the Dragon Quest series! The Nintendo DS Versions, which are the ones ported onto Android (not sure about iOS, but more than likely), are phenominal. Currently have Dragon Quest IV installed on my phone, and it's great.

Other recommendation: The Legend of Dragoon. Best console RPG ever.

(Also, Baldur's Gate okay but don't bother/waste your time with NWN2. As a western RPG enthusiast, it was a terrible game.)

Shining force and breath of fire franchises distinctively missing from your list.

Played Chrono trigger and FF3 tons as kid and still enjoy FF3 more. Also can include Secret of Mana in there as a game i enjoyed as a child. They are all very good games i just enjoyed FF3 more.

Noted. I have never gone back to play FF3 (played the rest) so maybe on this feedback I'll check it out someday.

I think what makes Chrono Trigger interesting is it was a one-off, albeit highly successful and received critical acclaim up there with the FF7 anime nutcases. Think there was a kickstarter by a group to produce a new one/ update it for 2016.

Secret of Mana can't hang with Trigger in the ranks tho.

Super Mario RPG Legend of the Seven Stars is the last game developed by Square for Nintendo. It is deep and includes all of the best RPG elements you'd expect as well as some skill involving ultmates.

Another good less known RPG is Secret of Evermore.

This as well. I have mentioned Legends of the Seven Stars on several occasions in OT threads.

Big game big RPG. Fun as fuck. Not a better RPG than Chrono Trigger, but 10x more fun if that makes sense.

I'd actually suggest playing this first. Man that game brings such strong nostalgia so many memorable settings and plotlines. BOYER NYAAA!!!!!! Training with the master, etc. Back when Square was actually Square and gave a fuck with talented people. Today they publish and develop shit games like the modern take on the Hitman franchise (disgustingly bad for 60 dollars).

I wanted a sequel to Seven so bad, but I think we ended up getting Paper Mario. Paper Mario was ok...you remember Jay Rippo? lol.
