Welcome, thanks for the story. Mine is fairly short for a ranger. It goes something like, made character, died died died died died died, somehow made level, died, deleveled, died, made level again, rinse repeat.

Is nice to read more uplifting stories like yours:)

At least you know what to expect in later life when you're asked to take the HT ;)

In all seriousness - like Slowpoke68 - massive respect for rolling what you want to roll, and min/max be damned!

@Slowpoke68
Did you remember to perform the Lucie Dolan quest in Qeynos to snag yourself a pair of +3 INT earrings? The quest has a max level of 10 (Cuburt will not drop the tattered dress after you hit 10th level), and I only managed to snag one before I out-levelled the quest in Qeynos aqueducts.

My DE wizard is still sitting at level 3 in Nek Forest haha. Segreto, go to P99 Wiki for a list of all the great turn in quests to help get you started and make a few pp. The only one I know off the top of my head for EC is the Deathfist belts.

Thanks to others and will keep the updates coming :)

Thanks!

I didn't. Should have, but the wiki made it sound like the earrings were a rare reward. I had a bad experience once in the aqueducts and have a bit of a phobia about that zone haha.

Made a couple of yellows this afternoon and left Erud's Crossing with 11 GLS and 11 LS. Of course 3 more deaths, but not too bad all and all. Got a little sloppy with my pulling. Back to Qeynos and on to NK to see the Gypsy.

Think I finally picked my main and thought I would do a little journal of my leveling experience.

After many restarts, I rolled up an Erudite Wizard. I put 25 into Int and 5 into Agility. I know a lot of the posts say to put the stats elsewhere, but C'est la vie.

Started off just killing whatever in Tox forest and vendoring it all. First few levels went by pretty quickly although it is hard getting used to being so squishy. I played a cleric on Brell Serilis just after launch for a few years. Didn't do much alting at all, and never a caster.

After not too many deaths I made level 4 and left Tox with a full set of cloth, a Sr. Apprentice Robe, the bare minimum in spells and a cracked staff. Took the boat to Qeynos and got a bind. Luckily I was able to hitch a ride to Butcherblock with someone porting and turned in all my bone chips at the Paladin guild in Kaladim which brought me almost to level 6.

Next headed to Blackburrow and got into some nice little groups/duo trios. Made a few levels there and gathered a fair amount of fangs. One problem was the number of higher levels who would come around the bridge and kill our gnolls. Levels 9-11 stealing our level 4, 5, 6 gnolls that my little group of 5-7's were killing. This forced me to move deeper past the doors which was ill advised. Three deaths in less than a half hour put a damper on my progress.

Eventually turned in my fangs hit level 9 and was done with Black Burrow.

Started killing the Rabid Bear outside and again hit a little snag with three more deaths in a half hour. With this Wiz it seems like that is a pattern for me, haha. But got my rhythm down and with turn ins I ended up getting to almost level 13 and walked away with all my spells (the good ones anyway) and an extra 120 pp to spare.

At this point I am doing some leisurely wisp hunting on Erud's Crossing and typing this in between pulls.

Hit level 13 and will stay here a bit longer. Would like to walk away with 8 GLS and some LS too. Will turn into the Gypsy in NK. My next hunting ground will be to hopefully find a bandit group or partner in WK. Will turn in Sashes and bank more money then head to ECL tunnel to see if I can buy some earrings and rings.

Want to do this nontwinked and self found. Self found meaning hunt it myself or pay fair market value for all my gear.

Anway thanks for reading. Future updates should be shorter and less wall of textish.

Great post man. Welcome to the server! Wizards are a lot of fun. :)

Turned in all my GLS and LS to the Gypsy in NK. Then was off to hunt bandits. Had kind of a hard time finding groups so I ended up soloing mostly. Did group for awhile with a Necromancer and we did pretty well together.

Between bandits and their sashes I made it through most of 15. Then went to Ever Frost as I never have really done much in that zone. Killed Snow Orcs and Mammoth Calfs and ended up hitting 16.

Bought all my spells including the all important invisibility and journeyed East taking the Gorge and Runnyeye rather than Highpass.

Ended up getting in a couple of great groups hunting caiman crocs and orcs in Oasis and have a good start on level 17.

Lastly finally tried my hand at Tunnelquest and picked up some bracers and rings increasing my mana, hps, and ac. Going to log back in and see what other buys I can find then off to pursue level 18. Still empty earslots :(

By doing all the turn in quests I really made quite a bit of starting money with this toon. Feels good to have cash for spells and some beginner items.

Hello all. I continue to grow in power.

Did crocs and orcs in Oasis to level 19. Spent most of my time in groups and met some nice people.

I also hit the tunnel and purchased an Adviser Robe for 200 pp, a pair of Obsidian Bead Hoops for 80 pp (this seemed to be almost half the going rate), and some Jade bracelets and rings for 75 more pp. Still have cloth in my other slots and using a snake fang with nothing in off hand, but I am getting there.

Did 3/4 of 19 solo at the Derv Camp in NRo with Dorn. Pretty leisurely and was hoping for a Dragoon Dirk but no dice. XP was slow but steady and loot was much better than crocs.

Hit 20 and yowza 10 pp per spell, ouch. Bought all the good ones but was left with 50 pp to my name. Took the boat to Felwithe to buy the gate ones I could only get there. No more boats for me though, at least not to Faydwer.

Joined a nice group camping the Scryer in UGuk last night and made two yellow bubbles. My new Nuke hits for 171 damage.

Will see what I can get up to today.

Haven't posted in awhile, as I have been busy irl and haven't been playing as much. Have been leveling mainly in MM at the pond. Luckily have gotten into some excellent groups there and have met a lot of nice people.

Also, joined College of Adventure guild. Nice people with a lot of folks in the lower levels still.

Hit level 25 and am closing in on 26.

Updates will be less frequent barring some noteworthy events.

Hope anyone on the fence about trying out P99 gives it a shot. My primary intention with this little journal is to give you an idea of what it is like on the server as a new player. I highly recommend it if you are thinking about it.

Wizard becomes a lot more fun at 20 when you start getting self ports and decent nukes. Group ports make making groups a lot easier too (Which if you are on blue will likely be necessary as a lot of people are hesitant to invite a wizard into their pre-existing group).

My one piece of advice for playing a wizard is try and keep your mana bar above 60% at all times in groups. Having a 10-20% mana wizard in your group on a bad pull is next to useless. Having a near full mana wizard in your group on a bad pull can be somewhat nice when mobs start disappearing off the battlefield. Also, don't under-estimate the usefulness of a few well placed roots in groups. A wizard with 80% mana does the same sustained DPS as a wizard with 20% mana. Don't fall into the trap of nuking every time you are able. Also, stun spells on caster mobs at higher levels can be very beneficial to the group. Spending 30 mana to interrupt a 650 dmg nuke on your tank is more worthwhile than spending that same 30 mana on 60 pts of damage to the mob.

Amazing class on Red.
