• What helpful words would you have for these "too nice" players?
Play the game how you feel comfortable playing it, don't bend to the majority will just to fit in. I'd say at least half of this game is politics, so not attacking another player, if for a good reason, can benefit you a lot of the time.
• Is it cruel or unsportsmanlike to attack another player unprovoked?
Not at all
• Is it possible for a nice person to participate actively in PvP without guilt?
I consider myself to be an overly nice person, and I feel very little guilt while pvping. Granted on the live days I was a complete dick and I've had time to reflect on that in the last 15 years.
• If you roll on Red, do you have to go around killing people and you're super duper lame if you don't murder at least one person every time you log on?
See my first response, though I personally feel extremely lame if I log off without killing anyone.
• While each player can have his or her own moral boundaries around PvP...what constitutes honorable and dishonorable PvP to you?
The only dishonorable PvP is the PvP conducted while blatently breaking the server ruleset.
• what is your attitude or mindset when it comes to PvP?
Bring it on

Pvp everyone but don't be a tool when you do it. Mature adults should be able to pvp (win or lose) and have a laugh about it afterwards. If you can't then go to Blue, or join Holo.

It makes me sad when I pvp a Friends cleric in Guk and he starts sending me tells telling me to eat my own ejaculate.

It should also be noted that proper form includes screenshotting and posting all rage tells on the forums. All guilds can be united and take pleasure in someone being rustled and raging about pvp.

I attack everyone regardless of guild/guildless/new. If it's a rival or a pk then cool, if it's not a rival or pk I usually offer to help cr them and don't make them lns or stop exping if it's appropriate.

I'll bind camp any rival/pk
I'll naked kill and attack while engaged in npcs anyone

I am KOS to no one until you attack me. Everyone gets the benefit of the doubt.

If you are in my /who and I don't know you I am on full alert. I sit in obscure places and leave no corpses and make sure all available buffs are up. I slow my pace of hunting NPCs and keep some mana reserved at least fight, run, or gate.

If I've fought you before I am on super high alert until you pass through or one of us finds each other. If you're a twink or just an asshole I'll avoid you as best as I can.

If you kill/attack me and predominantly talk shit in any way you are now permanently KOS. I will drop everything in this game to kill you until you LNS if I can. Forever. You are now the example to be made not to fuck with me.

If you attack/kill me and offer constructive criticism or thank me for the fight you're probably cool and I'm still going on high alert around you, but you can still be my friend possibly.

If you don't ever attack me you're cool and I will never hunt you we can maybe be friends.

If you choose to side with any of the above over siding with me you get the status of the person you're helping.

I'm in my 40s and I have a couple dozen people who hit me up for tells to group regularly and I have a half dozen people that I will chase mercilessly. No twinks have been in my level range for any significant play time to make any threat level and only have 1 guy who is cool but is also my nemesis.

on some live servers, some people would adopt an "anti-PK" mindset which seemed to be very popular

on red99, it appears a vocal minotity of players are instead of a "PK" mindset and warp what the culture appears to be, and if you don't attack someone on sight, it makes you a "bluebie faggot"

personally, i usually don't attack someone unless they're of a specific rival guild or have attacked me in the past; i really don't find much fun in fighting new/undergeared players

diplomacy and social interaction can go a long way on this server, so just randomly attacking everyone and acting like a douchebag will likely come back to bite you later on; people will remember how you act

that being said, i think anyone who rolls on a pvp server should fully expect a lot of players to attack them for no reason other than to kill and/or grief them to some extent and if you can't handle it, this isn't the server for you

this is well thought out and i agree with it.

If its red its dead.

I still think its good sportsmanship to send a tell saying good fight or something (win or lose)

• What helpful words would you have for these "too nice" players?

You're on red now, the main thing that set's it apart from the blue server is pvp. Enjoy it!

• Is it cruel or unsportsmanlike to attack another player unprovoked?

No. It is what you do afterwards that decides those things.

• Is it possible for a nice person to participate actively in PvP without guilt?

Yes! You have so many options! You can target people who target people who can't defend themselves, you can self impose handicaps, you can pick fights with people who are higher level and better gear than you do. The world is your oyster.

• If you roll on Red, do you have to go around killing people and you're super duper lame if you don't murder at least one person every time you log on?

No. I find this mind set offensive and detrimental to the server.

• While each player can have his or her own moral boundaries around PvP...what constitutes honorable and dishonorable PvP to you?

I feel like pvp should be used to settle differences. It is the tool that the community should be using to enforce ideals like LnS, non griefing, etc.

On the other hand we have a lot of people who just use PVP to harass other people and take away from their enjoyment. I find that distasteful.
• what is your attitude or mindset when it comes to PvP?

• What about all the trash talk and humiliation that goes on in OOC and elsewhere? How does a new player be undisturbed by this?

Sit back and watch.

• Do our records on the r99pvp.com leaderboard matter?

Yes. The system was made by a player of Azrael and he would share the secrets of how to farm the most points etc etc with those players and if you look at the board the majority of higher ranked players are the ones who abused the information he provided. The board does still have value as a living history or what guilds characters have been in so that guild leaders can make better decisions about who they invite.
They also are a pretty good indicator of who is a douche on the server.
