From the link graciously provided above. It is a common misconception that stats are a huge factor in skilling up. It just isn't true unless you are skilling up off something vastly higher than your skill, or you are hoping to fail to retain a rare component (both do happen but not often). Most commonly this would happen for something like baking or brewing. Doing MHBrews (248triv) at 188 skill. Or Fish Rolls (135 triv) at 1 skill. But largely, it doesn't come into play much.

Do I swap in WIS gear when I'm TSing, yes. But I don't carry a bag or buy extra gear to get that wis.

Tailoring, Pottery, Baking, Brewing are TS's where there is a decent gap between triv levels that you would want as much wis or Int as possible for hope of skillup during fails.
