Also please ditch the stupid george carlin "ya don't care after they're born!!" thing. For one thing george carlin wasn't really that funny, and also it's a total non sequitur. Republicans don't care about you once you're born, sure let's grant that. It also doesn't mean killing babies is okay. How are they related? It's just a dumb failed gotcha.

Let me just point out:

Roe vs Wade said that the first trimester abortion is what a woman had rights to. Women didn't necessarily have a right to a 2nd and 3rd trimester abortion -- and viability was considered particularly permissible criteria to block abortion access.

Then the rightwing started poking around with their sponsored judges put there to make the Republicans more popular with poor southern whites. Roe vs Wade was then gutting in the late 90s from all this trimester logic.

Which is stupid -- because there is some actual logic in make most abortion past the first trimester illegal. There have historically always been exceptions for rape, incest, health of the mother. But otherwise -- you got a time limit on that shit.

But it is clear that the life at conception crowd is the overpowering voice of the "pro-life" anti-abortion movement. You c an see these old hateful fucks that live joyless lives gathered outside planned parenthood. They have the intent of harassing women that -- you guessed it -- are in the midst of a first trimester abortion.

Because they actually care about the trimester. They mostly focus on the first trimester! How to talk women out of their abortion right away. How to make all the red tape so extreme they might just have the kid instead...etc.

Okay cool so, it's only murder once the babby passes out of the vag? What about when it's halfway out? Is that just half a murder? What magically makes it murder post-vag but not pre-vag?

And I'll even give you rape, if a woman is raped she should be able to get an abortion at any point. But rape only accounts for like less than 1% of abortions, the issue is kind of all those other ones.

The argument was that they don't actually care about life and really its just another rationalization for getting to channel their anger at some group of evil people.

This is not a grand point. But there is only so many angles to tackle the abortion argument. Some see it as murder, some do not, they are kind of at an impasse.

It is somewhat relevant what the motivation of the two sides of the dispute hold.

That was the standard under Roe. Under Casey, it is fetal viability. That's the current precedent.
