Because we didn't have mass shootings (of the modern variety) prior to that, and other countries have no such shootings, or far fewer (per capita) than us ... and those facts seem to directly contradict your point.

No, mass shootings are not even remotely unique to america, nor do they occur the most often per capita in america, unless you get REALLY specific and selective with which statistics you're including. In a country this large, they are still *extremely* rare, and there are FAR more defensive uses of guns to save lives every year than to commit violent crime.

Also as usual dems have nothing to say about their insanely violent cities that already have extremely tight gun laws.

When the news makes these people infamous, they inspire copycats. So IMO it is a combination of cultural changes and news reporting inspiring others to top the “body count” and become infamous themselves. This person appeared to have messaged people on social media posting pictures beforehand. They want to be seen

Don’t name them, localize the story, insult them in the story, don’t post body counts, don’t post manifestos
