Can anyone enlighten me on choosing a bow as a Ranger....

Do you go by DPS?
Damage?
Delay?
Ratio?
Situation?

Thanks!

For pulling, usually by range. Specifically the highest damage for that range.

In all honestly it depends on lots of things. If you want highest dps dam/delay ratio. If you plan on hunting only in a dungeon range isn't all that important. If you plan on hunting in WK...

Some people since they are only pulling with one shot just go with the highest damage and that's it. If they want a lot of range they just fletch 150 range arrows.

Depends how much you want to shoot your bow really. I've gone from 25-56 without a bow in my range slot and hasn't been a problem.

I plan to do outdoor soloing. I typically range/nuke mobs down to 30% or so before entering melee.

Thanks.

You need a good DPS/good range bow for bow-kiting.
Otherwise, a good range bow for outdoor pulling will suffice
for everything else.

Taimah (Ranger)

Do you plan on fletching your own arrows? If you do you can increase your range via arrows and that could give you a wider range of useful range's on your bow of choice.

I do.
How do the ranges of a bow and an arrow tie in together?

The range of the arrow adds to the range of the bow. So if you have a bow with a range of 100 and you are using arrows with a range of 150 you have a total range of 250.

Bows are awesome very underrated, specifically on the pvp server

Just fletched 150rng arrows as opposed to the 50rng vendor arrows.

Range is ridiculous along with my Rain Caller.
Bow kiting is fun.

My bow dmg + spell dmg is easily comparable to my melee, I'd say.

Always went with the Rain Caller, more than anything so I could fire an arrow across the zone

Make sure you have good Dex gear. That is what makes arrows crit.

rain caller its incredible. i though dmg cap was 20, but i hit for 22+ all the time with it.
Literally one shots blue mobs with an insane range... its a plvl!

How important is DEX as far as starting stats. I would like to experiment with a Ranger sometime to see if I can solo all the way to 30s without getting twinked via bow kiting and skill.

In my view I would dump everything to STR at level one and raise my DEX through gear. I don't think DEX would be critical level 1-15. Maybe I'm wrong.

I solo'd my Ranger to 30 exactly like this.
Dex is his lowest stat (<100)
Dex = Bow Crits
I don't find STR effecting DMG much.
Just my 2cp.

I have a great twinked ranger. and i do more dmg in melee at lvl 10, but i can solo warlord on cb kitting him with snare/bow. reallly awesome

Would WIS and DEX be equally important for bow-dependent rangers, or just DEX?

I would say that Wisdom would only effect your mana pool and fletching capabilities.

I don't typically go OOM while bow kiting, the range I receive from Raincaller/Fletched Arrows is so high that I'm typically out of casting range! ;)

i dont think you need wisdom since it doesnt scale pretty well in a ranger. i suggest you to go hp/mana in items like neck, earrings, rings for example

How much dmg do you make with rain caller and crafted arrows per shot thought?

Average around 24dmg at lvl 30 with 2 dmg arrows. Crits are where it's at, and frequency depends on Dex from what I've seen.

Also, they're optimum range (150) and, conveniently, the cheapest for me to fletch ATM.
