hi reading comprehension pal, if it was changed after luclin to strip lev that means before this patch (aka our timeline) you were able to zone in to places like sky and the hole with lev. thx for playin dawg

Sky wouldn't work because sky strips all buffs on zone-in. But I don't think the Hole is supposed to strip your buffs.

There were major revisions to the spell system and fixes required. Great case and point being the necro heal sploit.

You were never able to just levitate into the hole.

I was playing my 25th level Woodelf Druid and had become a little bored with levelling, so I decided to investigate zones. Not knowing anything about the Hole, I decided to levitate into it for a little snooping around.
10,000 points of falling damage later (you zone while dropping), I am trying to figure out how to retrieve my corpse.
I go to this thread of info on the Hole and read the post that is just before the one you are reading now. It mentions that you can literally force your way through the locked rock portal. As I am pretty much desperate to recover my corpse, I decide to try the method described.
I wander through the Paineel newbie zone and down the back tunnel to the pool of water described. I cast Enduring Breath on myself (I had gone fishing for scales since dying) in order to investigate the pool at my leisure.
I note that there is a pile of rocks, and that towards the bottom center there is a crack between them. Looking through the crack you can clearly see a passage beyond. So I start pressing the "D" key while moving forward. You wiggle your way around from side to side until you appear to have a clear view of the passage and then simply squirt forward. Needless to say, I was quite surprised and pleased to find that this method works.
I then swam down the passage and zoned. Once inside you are in a pool and get the impression that you are in a sunken city. I climbed up on shore and immediately noted two red earth elementals who saw right through my Superior Camoflauge spell. I walked forward to investigate the sights and try my "corpse" hotkey. I found out a number of things. The elementals have a healthy aggro range. The hallway or street (remember its all underground now) looked very cool and very ruined. My corpse was no where nearby. 25th level characters do not belong in the Hole.
Needless to say, I was soon begging a GM to help me with corpse recovery. The best they would do (and believe me, I appreciated that much) was to bring the corpse to underwater pool. According to them, I would need to enlist the services of a high-level group to get me back in and recover it. I said thanks, I will do that.
I then TPed my way back to Toxx Forest, scrambled through the Paineel newbie zone, and promptly forced myself through the locked portal again.
Zoned, looted my corpse, and gated like a bad boy.
BTW, this dumb-arsed Druid will be back! My Summoned line of DDs will rock in there someday!

Research is hard.

good find Lazortag - I forgot that players would drop into the hole.

The way we get in now is swimming through water and unlocking a rock - is this not classic? I have really vague memories about it.

You could zone in either way on Live, much as you can here. The difference was that on Live more people made the mistake of jumping in the big pit and the key sold in Paineel was less well-known.

Hypothesis: I wonder if that patch note posted above refers to stacked levitates in zones like Velks. Originally only a single levitate buff would get stripped off, so if you had two on (say, levitate and DMF) you would keep one and thus have levitate in a no-lev zone. I'm not sure if that was ever fixed, but if it was then the original poster may have found the patch that did it.
