What level do pets dual wield with weapons?

When you hand pets weapons, what level will they dual wield at? (The level of the pet, not the caster.)

I know this question is older than time but forum searches are, as a rule, useless, including this forum, and I have not played a classic pet class before now.

Mage pets. That guide has a section on dual wielding, but oddly, does not say what level it happens. It only says "In classic, pets must be given two 1H weapons in order to dual wield". Does that mean it starts at level 1, then?

pretty sure its the lvl 24 pet (maybe 20?). maybe ill log in my mage and check, maybe i wont hehe

Well, I didn't google it, because the rules on this server are different than everything else. Here you have to look in house for the answer, like the wiki, but the wiki didn't have it. It's not game breaking and it doesn't really matter, I was just curious. This forum is little-used and I didn't think anyone would mind the traffic. Blow me.

You can give 2 weapons to your pet at level 1 I'm fairly sure, but he won't use the offhand wep.

I think Sam is in the right ballpark, my necro pet I'm sure was dual wielding usefully at 24. You need to be careful of the 50% dps rule if solo though, don't want to give Jebober the tools to out damage you :p

Also for necro pets, you can STOP giving them 2 weapons at 44, they naturally dual wield from then on :)

What level is your mage? My bet is on 24 for the skill, but post if you're finding they dual wield earlier.

You can see the dual wield results in the window output - so you can tell when it kicks in.

Although this may be beating a dead horse, from my memory of classic:

Mage pets would DW at 20 with weapons

Necro pets would DW at 24 with weapons

By 39 both mage and necro pets can DW with no weapons

At 39 pets also gain much faster out of combat health regeneration

On this server you can hand a lvl 1 pet (2) 1h weapons and they will equip, but not use them, on live this did not happen, a pet that couldn't DW would simply "eat" the second weapon.

my necro's pet didn't dual wield until level 29. tested the 24 pet by giving it a piercer and a slasher, and i was only getting one type of damage in my battle spam window.

23 mage here; As far as I've noticed dual wielding starts at approximately level 18/19+ (so your level 20 pet summon should be able to do it).

Also; question for you higher level mages/people out there: Does it dual wield natively at 39 or is it double attacking?

I may have to do my own research on this one I get up there.

DW without weapons at 39, but no reason to. 2x sword of runes ftw!

Necro pets begin to DW at spell level 24 haunting corpse... however only the level 21 and 22 pets will DW, and only if you give them weapons.

Just to clarify, as the pet wiki is incorrect, and so are some of the postings in this thread.

According to the table on the wiki pet guide, necro pets start dual wielding at 29 with weapons.


Not that it matters, though, cause this is a thread about mage pets I guess.
