View Full Version : Jboot MQ - making sure it goes right?

I'm nearing the coveted 5K mark for my first pair of jboots, and while that might not be a ton of money in the grand scheme of things, as a non-twink who's never done a MQ before, I'm a bit nervous. Is there anything I can do to make sure it goes smoothly? Is it safer to go with a sale that's posted on the forums rather than some random guy in EC?
Thank you for any input you can offer.

If you're worried about getting ripped off, I'd try to buy the MQ from someone who you've seen has sold a few before. I'd check the forums. There's plenty of folks who sell these and are established/trustworthy.

I've sold maybe 10 or so on my necro Butchh. I'd say look for someone who is in a known guild, has a high level or is willing to take the 5k after the sale.
I was always willing to take the plat after the sale unless it was a lvl 5 sk asking me. Then I was nervous, and would ask for the plat up front.
I wouldn't worry TOO much about being scammed but if you are worried, you can always ask the MQ seller for references (people who he's done the quest for before), or find an MQ seller who's in a well-respected guild (who would have something to lose by scamming you).

I've seen them lately for 4.5k or so. If you see someone charging 5 ask them to include the gold as well as the rapier. Might save you a few hundred plat.

This. Hang out in EC for a day and you will see some for 4kish

To me that seems like an incredible price considering all prices have risen dramatically lately. But I have not been in EC this week.

People have been known to scam with Jboots sales in the past. It's probably a remote chance but its still a chance. Definitely don't buy from someone guildless/anon unless you're willing to take the risk...not to say everyone is untrustworthy but I know I'd feel better having someone along I've heard of at least.
Have you typed the seller's name into a forum search? Not a bad way to see if anyone has griped on here about him.

Saidi sold me a pair - it went extremely smooth. Ports, escort, the whole package. Even had her BF spam hail hasten while we strolled in and did a flawless turn-in. She is a very reliable source seller.
Edit: Paid 5k.
If I buy another pair from her, i'd pay more :)

^ Confirmed good guy. If you see him selling go for it.
It's also not a bad idea to go where the AC spawns in SRO and ask people camping it, chances are you will find someone who farms it consistently.

Depending on what level you are, you could also camp it yourself in SRo. It's really not that bad of a camp, you can mostly afk and watch TV til you get one.

I got an MQ from Aowen, somehow we (or I) screwed up, and he ended up with the boots instead of me. He gave me back my 4.5k. Solid guy.

I bought 3-4 pairs of jboots and every one of them allowed me to pay after the MQ, maybe if u show the plat first they'll be more inclined to do it.

Epilogue...I got my jboots from Kubotai. Nice guy, patiently dealt with my noobishness. I would definitely recommend him.
Thanks all for the input. I guess from now on it'll be old hat, but this was definitely one of the more exciting p1999 moments for me.

Bought mine from Ganjastar, paid half up front and half afterwards.
He is trustworthy, seek him out.
