Are any of you guys getting down on this?

The skill tree is pretty much the coolest thing Ive seen, each class starts at a different place but everyone is on the same enormous tree.

Its open beta, free to play (and always will be), theres no Pay to Win items, all paid stuff is cosmetic, they do not want people paying to get ahead here.
Oh and it has PVP.

Now this I'm interested in. Torchlight 2 gets a lot of press but this game looks like Diablo 2's successor should have looked, and that skill tree looks beautiful. I love complexity like that. I love the ability to really customize your character's skills.
One thing bothers me:
6. What does Path of Exile cost to play?
Path of Exile is 100% free to play, for everyone, forever. Our website will allow the purchase of many in-game perks and aesthetic upgrades, but all of these are completely optional, and players can have a complete, fulfilling gaming experience without spending a penny.
As a rule I stay away from supposed "free to play" games with cash shops, because they often wind up costing more to fully enjoy than a single purchase game or even some subscription MMOs. It's the "in-game perks" I don't like. I would much prefer it if were a single purchase game like Diablo 2 was.

ALL In-game purchased items are AESTHETIC ONLY. They offer you absolutely no advantage in anyway.
They have said officially, no RMT, no JSP, No paying to get ahead, or you will be banned.

Their in-game perks amount to stuff like extra gore, making your summoned skeletons look like little golem things, etc. You can also buy extra character slots and stash slots. All aesthetic or otherwise zero advantage giving things like what has been stated.

Oh so they're not really perks. They mentioned perks and aesthetics separately, but all those cash shop items are aesthetics. Asian MMOs are notorious for having terrible cash shops, and even some western MMOs are similar (like Star Trek Online, which maybe not coincidentally is now run by an asian company) but other MMOs like Pirates Of The Burning Sea have cash shops that are mostly cosmetic but do offer xp bonus scrolls and the like.
Is it necessary to buy character or stash slots? Did they give you too few of each so that you almost have to buy? That's the sort of thing I don't like. I'll happy purchase a game but if they make one "free" but cleverly entice you to spend money I just leave.

Path of Exile looks very promising, but I think I'll try Torchlight 2 first, as it's made by the actual Diablo 1/2 designers. Even the same person that made the Diablo 2 music did the music for Torchlight 2. I want to see how their design ideas have changed. More than that, since the game is moddable, it can be changed if players don't like it.
Some things off the top of my mind that give TL2 an advantage over PoE:
1. Moddable - especially when GUTS is released
2. Low system requirements
3. Offline play - being online is not required to play
4. Better randomization of dungeons/outdoors/monsters/etc
5. Better animations and better response
However, PoE is supposed to do these things better:
1. More secure online activity and economy leading to more competition - so when you "earn" something, be it gear or general accomplishment or pvp bragging rights, others can trust it's legit
2. Better graphics
3. Darker graphics - many people say PoE has a better atmosphere
4. Better customization - large skill tree that's supposed to be non-linear
5. Etc.
There're too many to count differences between Diablo 3 and Torchlight 2 and PoE. Inevitably, people will move back and forth and meander and find their place. It's good to have choices.

Great design theory, insanely unpolished. Just miles from an acceptable standard of coding and tuning. If this had been developed by a studio with the facilities for things like proper netcode and internal testing, this could be one of the best games ever. They're twenty employees right now and development is horrendously slow.

Game has everything and more that I wanted from Diablo 3. Just too many positive things to mention that I don't want to forget anything. You just need to try it. The passive tree might seem daunting at first but it's pretty awesome. Tip for new players, don't pass up those +life and resist passives, by level 30 you'll be getting owned if you go straight DPS.
I believe they said there are only 16 people that work for GGG and a lot of those are mods etc. For a small company they've made quite a game, future looks great for it.

So far so good. It feels very much like Diablo 2 which is good because I consider that game a masterpiece. The whole idea of finding and leveling skills through gems is odd and the skill tree is unwieldy but it does offer a lot of customization.

Game is good. Currently playing my freezing pulse shadow (Davrahm). Add me :3 Also, yah, certain skills absolutely wreck framerates and playing with more than 3 people--you can't see shit. Loot system doesn't really make you want to play in public games, so...
But overall is good, just play with 1-2 buddies and try not to have any lightning arrow assholes :3

So far I like this game much better than D3. It's definitely solid. Though theres still quite a few kinks to work out in the beta. Smoother character movement would be nice!

Haven't played it and I've never even heard of it, but i'll give it a shot.
I've been trying out Wizardry Online which is "meh" at best (although I think it's fun to be able to kill people and take their stuff.. it's just too bad I would feel guilty if i started griefing people)

What I'm finding annoying is maps automatically resetting. Would be nice if it were only an option to reset maps after 8-12 minutes instead of automatic.

Haven't found this to be a glaring issue. DC'ing during a map run is frustrating though if you were solo mapping, bcuz is hard to get back in. Don't think you can re-enter same map from eternal laboratory. Wasted map.

There is WP's everywhere. If you have traveled a bit without finding one just throw down a portal. Beats having to fight back to where you were.
Also join groups, faster face, better exp etc.

I find myself sometimes going back to the previous map just so it doesn't reset. In act 3 for instance as I was fighting through the crematorium and sewers I occasionally ran back up to the slums so that it wouldn't reset, because once you clear one of those dungeons you have to go through the slums to get to the next. It would have been damned annoying to clear a path to all the entrances (I in fact cleared the entire slums) only to have to do it again because I spent a bit of time in a dungeon.
It's one thing I miss from D2, the fact that maps you cleared stayed clear.
