Hi all,

I recently found out about P1999 and am excited to relive the good old days. I am currently debating what class to make and would love advice as I do not have the best memory of what classes were like at this point in the game. I am considering making a SK, monk, or necro and would like advice re: soloability/duoability (including what class to duo with), server need, etc. With Kunark on the horizon, should I hold off on making a monk or necro? Is regen that worth it?

Necros and mages are great soloers, but if you made a tank you would rarely have problems getting a group. The server probably needs tanks more than any other class.

Is a monk considered a tank at this point in time? Or do we just mean SK/Pally/War?

Would making a non-troll/ogre SK be a viable alternative to avoid the 1.68 penalty?

This isn't true. I have an easier time finding a group on my healer than a tank. Most groups will take 2 healers and only 1 tank.

Also, when making groups myself, I find it easier to find a lfg tank than a lfg healer.

What kind of healer do you play?

I get lots of tells on my druid for groups but I've always figured it's because they know I can get to wherever in short order. But I get more tells for groups on my Warrior than my GF does on her Cleric, depending on where we are/time of day etc, or so it seems.

I play a cleric, and it can be very hit or miss trying to get a group. Obviously, groups I'm in don't have problems finding healers lfg, but it seems like tanks are in short order.

Playing a SK here and I've been having a harder time finding a group. Mainly because Unrest and MM are camped to death.

opposite experience for me, i rarely go with my /lfg tag for long 38 sk here going on 50.

when it starts getting later, 10PM+ MT, i start getting spammed with group invites.

If I make a monk, what do I put my initial stat points into? I am thinking to divide between sta and str

Forgot to mention in original post that I am also considering a shaman. Out of the four: monk/sk/necro/shammy... which is the overall best for mix of solo/duo/limited group play?

i personally like shamans...great buffs/debuffs/slows/hastes etc etc. great in group and awesome in a duo.

I think my friend is making a shammy so I will be duoing with one.... if that is the case, do I go monk, de sk, necro, or enchanter?

Also, is EXP better starting near freeport or quenos?

I would go with SK and I prefer Qeynos because Blackburrow is nearby and is a fun place to level, to me personally.

For long-term you should probably go monk, but short-term i'd say SK. Necro's and chanter's also make fantastic duo partners with shamans, but Monk still offers the most diversity and utility.

Erudite Evil classes are not KoS in Qeynos minus a Erudite roamer that is connected to ErudinHighCouncil. Just in case that was the only thing detouring you :)

Qeynos is the better place to level until 8-10 or so because of gnoll fangs and diseased pelts. You'll be earning more exp off quests than mobs. Not to mention 2 rabid wolves spawn near each other, and always drop a pelt worth really good exp and 2 plat each. You can go between the wolves (west QHills) and the gnolls outside BB (east) farming lots of quest drops, and add in the rabid grizzly once you add some levels.

Level 9 would probably be a good time to make the run to Freeport, since the shaman will have sow, unless you want to continue in Blackburrow.

Thanks to all for the tips. Why is monk better long term? Also, can monk solo well? If not, I may go necro or enchanter to team with the shammy. Would one be better than the other? On the forums it looks like chanters w/ high cha can solo well with charm, would that better better solo than a necro?

Monks can play dead and self heal a bit. Also, you don't have to deal with the hybrid penality.

You don't want to try level 45 when you are in the hole that much as an SK. I still have nightmares about it as a ranger. Three days, eight hours at a time, in the king room of solb. I did not play EQ for three months after that.
