The new player group thread, new chars start here

Starting up this thread for a specific purpose: To provide us newbies with a way to coordinate and put a group together to level with. If you aren't going to help in that goal please, please do not post here. Maybe an admin can help us to keep this thread cleaned up?

Do us new players a favor and show us the community here doesnt suck, only post here if:

- You are starting a new character, or have very recently started one, and wish to level up as a group, both for xp and safety.

- You wish to help this new group, whether it be with items/money, gear, whatever.

Currently looking at a group of 3 (two confirmed, one of those is myself), not sure on who's going to be what yet, currently there is an iksar shaman who looks to be around level 10.

I myself am considering either an iksar shadow knight or a human/DE rogue. Sounds like our third guy is going to fill in whatever class we need (cleric/tank/dps). Any thoughts/opinions on what I should roll up? Any thoughts on what class/race you intend to play? To be honest I was thinking it would be best if none of us rolled iksar as it can be a bitch to get off kunark (and honestly, its such a good place to level up 1-20), but it seems that its too late for that (Rigby rolled iksar shaman).

Please post what times you are usually available, as well as what day/time you would like to get your character rolled up and started playing. I figure that its cool to start your characters at any time, just dont go far beyond lvl 10 right now. I will currently be available any day this week at any time (I'll make time on whatever day we pick to get started grouping). Lastly, I'm usually on every evening from 8ish PST to whatever time I fall asleep. sometimes this can be really really late, and sometimes it can be really early (usually I am on the next morning on early nights)

If any of you old red99 vets have any items/time to donate to our little group of adventurers, go ahead and toss me a pm. Any items you provide will go to the owner best suited for the item (armor will go to tanks, for example). Even a suit of banded/bronze/leather would be really helpful as i believe we are all starting out naked like normal non-twinked characters do ;)

Make iksar monk/warrior/shaman and you can all start in the same place. The monk/warrior will be good as iksars with the AC and once velious hits the monk/warrior will really start to shine with gear.

The only problem with that set up is that you are gimping yourselves if the shaman is not on.

If you want to make something to level up think about what you can do in duos as well.

shaman/mage/enchanter group could also duo or solo

shaman/cleric/tank - the tank would at least have two people they can duo with

I level so slow on this server so basically every new group that starts passes me. I will at least get a couple shots on em before they are oor.

Ok so etris and I will both be on tonight, I plan on logging in around 6pm PST, 7 probably at the latest. Etris has a vent server we can all go on, although I don't have a mic (maybe i can get my bluetooth to work with my pc....) so I may just have to listen.

Rigby, if you'll be on around taht time we should catch up to you fairly quickly, and be able to group up and go to the local dungeon hopefully by tonight if we all push hard.

Vayden, it'd be awesome if you'd like to come join us and help out. If you'll be around at that time I will send you a tell, characters name will probably be gotrocks.

I am still not sure what class to do - iksars are probably out just because cabilis is so far from everything else and my poor SK would be Kos if he goes anywhere else, unless I get him over to EC and start wailing on orcs right away, but thats risky IMO. We'll see.

Psykes will also hopefully be on, we'll see what happens. Ill be shooting him a PM here and possibly a text to try and bring him around. Hope to see you all on around 6-7 pst.

*unlike when i leveled, there is no lowbie pop now. some decent solo spots i kinda remember are ummm.

think i did EK spiders from 15-25 maybe to 20. charm griffs

at some point i did mammoths til 30 or 34 ( i dont remember) in Everfrost

34-39 i think i quadded gnolls in SK

39-51 ice giants ( I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS TIL 43+) iceberg broke like crazy but i just like killing big mobs so i dealth with it. I also had a manastone while doing this so mana wasnt an issue.

oh i did 1-15 in Misty/Runnyeye. Saidin and I duo'd Runnyeye for a level or two. good times.

Kunark opens a ton more options. OT and other zones have charmable mobs but ill leave that up to u.

Honestly its a little daunting starting up on this server because literally everyone is already established at lvl 60 with multiple alts. Been hard to get advice/help, few people seem concerned with helping the lowbie population flourish.

That being said, I will likely roll two characters on here. A druid to solo, and a dark elf SK to tank for this group. Unfortunately, no one logged in tonight so I wasnt able to discuss group makeup with anyone.

To all the guys who were planning on getting started, post here when you log in. Etris was on earlier and we have a vague idea of where we are going with this. It would be a big help if you guys could post what role you'd like to play (dps, heals, or tank) as well as race (so we can coordinate and get everyone together). It'd be best if no one went iksar so that we can all level together one either of the main continents (instead of just kunark). Lookin forward to hearing your replies.

and penalty is NOT worth the time , i have a 53 sk and i hate my char. I can tank real good for groups but cant do a fucking thing otherwise.

but our group needs a tank, unfortunately. I guess the other option would be to roll a monk. Human monks are just awful, though =/

and sam, i never said I don't like pvp :) its the whole reason i'm making a character here. I just want to make sure I have a group of people to level with before i jump in with a melee character (like an sk.. or a monk.. or even a rogue if we have a tank), otherwise I'm going to roll a druid (and probably will still roll a druid anyway)

I did pvp/pk in diablo 2, wow, and a couple other random rpgs that were f2p. Did really, really well in WoW, was one of the top pvp rogues on my server during vanilla. Got my ass targeted by swarms of alliance in BG's, and whenever I'd show up at a zone and start dropping alliance I'd have hordes of them searching for me after I vanished. They knew my name and watched for me =P

I can only imagine the countless hours the alliance on that server blew sitting around waiting to see if I'd show back up in a zone.... only to get tells saying I was in another :p:p

in any case, i never tried EQ pvp and really want to give it a shot. The +50% exp bonus makes it even easier to want to jump into a pvp game that (by all accounts) is incredibly broken and unbalanced (lol). Im still excited to try, but I'd really like to get it right (hence why im having such a hard time picking a class).

The way I see it's not a dead server if you've got people to play with, so ....hopefully in our own little space we will be able to keep something alive. A mage is a good idea, and I certainly do agree (as I am playing a mage atm on blue) but for myself, I don't think I'll be playing one on red.

server has alot of classic mechanics but goes up to PoP. boxing allowed which is good for those who like it. more pop than red, around the same or less pop than blue. no FTE/cockblocking content because there is so much of it. anyways i better stop talking before i eat a ban.

To be fair, I don't think he said that with intent to scare us, more so we know what our expectations should be. He's probably been the most helpful person in this thread overall as far as info (places to level, etc). I'm not gonna lie, I did already know that it would be on the empty side and that is a concern. But if I am rolling with a group I'll have fun still.

But if you guys want to help new players, like 20pp for spell money would be huge for me right now.

Should be more than enough.. If you want to main your Druid for the crew I wouldn't mind rolling a Mage or Enchanter, though I'd lean Mage.
