Lets say I want to hunt Dark Elf guards, as a dark elf... If I were to illusion myself to High Elf to lower my faction, would I bottom out sooner? And then would I stop taking faction hits because I am bottomed out so that when I switched back to my Dark Elf self my faction hit in the end was not so large? Does anyone know?

This is just an example, as I am not a Dark Elf...

Your faction carries with you, illusion or not. For instance, if you killed west freeport guards and maxed negative faction with them, you couldn't illusion human and be non-kos to freeport militia

so that holds true if I were normally a high elf but illusioned to an ogre to kill them? because ogres are already kos so shouldn't my faction be artifically lower then? just like it would go up if I were a DE and illusioned to human?

This is an example of a specific faction when it is weighing how it feels about you. It takes your:

Base faction with them.
Class related faction.
Race related faction.
Deity related faction.

It adds up all of those and then decides whether it likes you or not.

When you kill a mob and get a faction hit (plus or minus) it affects the base number. Get enough negative base faction and it will probably be low enough that it wouldn't matter if you could cast illusion:grandma, you'd still be KoS.
