this is a warped world we live in where a man can take a child's life so callously

I can't imagine the kind of person that can walk into an elementary school and start shooting children

Man... Just no words to say to describe this evil. Having three kids of my own, my heart goes out to all the parents that have kids at this school.
We seriously have a degradation of society in this country. The saddest part is this seems like a trend now in our country.

Yes, I cant fathom what would cause someone to want to do this, especially to children. May he burn in hell, and the people effected be able to find peace and comfort.

This is tragic and all, but let's go to the traumatized kids for the in-depth reporting! --says the fucking soulless reporters

I think all the news reporting does more harm than good.

They focus too much on the negative.

I think this situation is terrible and coats everything in an ugly tar. But I won't let some whacko psychopath take away my hopes for the future. We need to grab hold of those hopes so our children will believe this world is worth living in. By focusing on the negative, we send them the message it ain't worth their time.

Keep believing. Keep living. The dream and the work we put into it is our anchor.

I hope they up gun registration requirements. I know gun owners don't like all of the tape and roadblocks, but we got to stop these people from getting guns. I researched this a year ago or maybe two and what I found was a lot of states are missing the mark by a wide margin. They need to get rolling. I realize we can't stop all shootings because that's impossible, but we're missing a lot of people who shouldn't have guns.

The amount of policing in schools is worrying too. I really don't like it. However, with the school shootings in the past 20 years, I can understand why some districts demand it. The problem is that police really are not teachers. They don't understand kids and are going to treat them in a way that's cold and steely. It's something that could give children the wrong impression. They'll grow up around police and get the notion that they're somehow bad or tainted by something evil. If it's too extreme and police are everywhere, they'll either fully submit their will to authority or they'll probably resist it. Both cases scare the crap out of me.

We trade freedom for security and vice-versa. There's an inbetween we need to "shoot" for. With freedom comes responsibility. I'd hope we focus on that more than the reverse: guns, detectors and police. Just think of Afghanistan and the people that grew up during the war. I don't think it's comfortable to grow up feeling like you're hunted or suspected of something wrong. We HAD to be in Afghanistan to smoke out the Taliban and stabilize it against terrorism, but if we had to do the same thing in our schools, I'd fear for our future. Because if children feel like they're hunted or oppressed or chained down, how're they going to grow up?

Responsibility. We need to focus on that if we want to maintain freedom. This also means we must have some measure of respect for our kids and trust that they can learn some things on their own.

But honestly, something tells me people will react by turning to the police. It's just the convenient natural response, instead of taking part of the blame and digging deeper and overhauling the system. This is one reason government keeps getting bigger. People are surrendering more of their will to authority.

Can't fix dumb nor instinct, but you can sometimes fix incompetence.

I don't know why people say prayer to the families.

4/5ths of the people shot are dead.

Prayer isn't gonna do shit.

Because saying a prayer to the families is a way to cope and do your own part in your own way. Sure it wont bring them back, but to those families who are suffering knowing that the country is behind them will help them heal.

The reason for my prayers are because as a father, if I lost one of my kids I can't fathom how I could go on in life. As parents we all have those moments where we lose our kid in a crowd for a few minutes, or your kid is supposed to be inside but he/she is not and we panic and for a few slight seconds and dread kicks in. And to imagine having that dread that you lost your kid set in, and then to really realize you will never see your kid again. That really just tears me up inside thinking about it.

So as a parent that truely believes the kids are why we do what we do day in and day out... My heart goes out to all of the parents.

my daughter is 4 years old and out of all the bad stuff that has happened threw out my life ( 9 11 or katrina etc ) this school shooting hits me on a more personal lvl because i wasnt a father during all the other stuff but when i heard about it and think about what if i lost my child ... the thought sends a shock threw my body that nothing can touch i honestly dont think i could last a day without my child so my heart goes out to any parent who has lost a child and is still moving forward because i dont think i would honestly be able to

I know the worst thing a parent can endure is the loss of a child.

The only reason you "pray" is because you're scared.

To the families, your condolences mean nothing.

If your heart really goes out to the families. Write a letter and send it to the families if you care so much.

However, they'd just spite you and your pity because it would only remind them of what they lost.

Have a nice day.

One thing that bothers me about this is how people label this "incomprehensible" and "evil"

America is a huge cesspool of glorification of violence

Want to resolve a problem quickly, take a gun and kill it

It works in the movies doesnt it

When you label tragedies this way, its a way to not give a long hard look on why events like these happen, to not see reality
