View Full Version : NPC Spawn Issue: Plasmatic Priest (cleric epic, triggered) despawns mid-fight

On tuesday, the 13th November, I did the cleric epic fight in temple of SolRo with my shaman and two guildies. We triggered the plasmatic priest by turning in the Coral Statue to the "a seeker" trigger NPC at 8pm game time (seeker despawns at 9pm). The fight lasted a while, a good 10 minutes I'd guess, and when the plasmatic priest was at 6% health, he despawned, at 12am game time. No xp hit, no faction hit, no corpse, poofed from target. And no epic item drop of course.

From all information that I can find (i.e.: no mention of a despawn) and all I know about triggered spawns in classic (unlike Raster of Guk who despawns mid-fight at the end of his spawns window) this is a bug.

Aside from the bug report, I have also filed a petition and am hoping for an item reimbursement to avoid having to camp Lord Bergurgle again - does anyone know what the typical response time on such petitions is? I haven't got a "View" on the petition post yet...

Do you have research about this? When I searched in the past, my references showed that regardless of engagement, npcs would despawn according to time.

If this is not the case, we need specifics to consider possible changes.

One example to support his bug claim, the trigger for Ixiblat Fer has a day/night spawn/despawn cycle, but Ixi himself will stay up so far as I can tell forever once spawned.

I have never heard of an NPC poof WHILE being engaged in a fight. I can see it poofing if nobody has it engaged at all, but this clearly has to be a bug, I can't think of any mobs poofing in this way at all.

I think that is mixing up two things: NPCs that spawn on their own - like Raster of Guk - do indeed despawn at the end of their window. But for triggered NPCs I never heard of a despawn while engaged. With the possible exception of the triggered mobs in PoSky, after 8 hours or so (thinking of Bzazzt Isle).

Also, the seeker (trigger npc) despawns at 9pm game time (possibly at 10pm). As you can see from my log below, the plasmatic priest despawned completely unrelated to that event about 2-3 game hours later, around 12am.

The statue begins to emit a reddish glow then shatters in a burst of a fire and smoke! The flames in the plasmatic priest's eyes vanish with the explosion and only madness remains! I will kill you all now, the goblins will continue to war, and when my spirit is restored I will ensure that Ixiblat Fer consumes all of Norrath in his flames!!'

It won't despawn until unengaged and timer has elapsed.

I think it does here, but on Live is only up an hour or so. Back in the day you needed a whole raid to take it out (he's too weak here), and if you were low in numbers you only had 2-3 shots.

All triggered mobs that have despawn timers should all act the same. Why would this mob not despawn during combat if the queen bee Bazzt or Sirran the lunatic despawns while engaged.

The undead (night only) gnolls in East Karana despawned on me while i was engaged in fighting it when 7am hit.

The way things currently work is npcs that spawn by day or night timers despawn, regardless if engaged or not. Triggered npcs not on day/night despawn are written to not despawn if engaged and their timer elapses.

You used airplane npcs as an example, but I see this functionality for .. Bazzazzt, Bzzazzt, Sirran, essence carriers, essence tamers, Bazzt Zzzt, Bzzzt, Keeper of Souls, Protector of Sky.

If there are non-day/night spawned npcs which despawn due to script, post back and I'll see about changing them. In the meantime, I'll look into existing scripts which may have this problem.
