** Grouping **
We have revamped the grouping system. This is a major rewrite of the system that should have little effect on gameplay, with the exception of removing the bugs with the old system. Players should no longer have issues with their group due to the link-death of any member (including the leader), zoning and other such issues. There is also a new command available.
/makeleader - The leader of the group can now reassign who the leader of the group is by use of this command.

I have no problem with fixing this stuff. But it should be at the bottom of the priority list after Velious, simulated repops, fixing resists etc etc.

Agree 1000%, but this ain't our server and pretty sure Nilbog subscribes to the gameplay should be 100% identical in all forms to what it was in 1999 school of thought. While I disagree, it's his server ain't mine.

the whole point of makeleader was to fix a group bug which caused groups to constantly have to be reformed. This change falls into the category of shit so minor that the time is better off spent anywhere else

Very true, but depending on how difficult it is to fix it may be worth doing just for the classic experience.

No offense to ele, you are a bug/dev research guru, but all available time should be devoted to the release of Velious. Kunark has been out for 2 years, and it looks like another 6-12 months until we see winter. I'm in no authority to decide priority, this is just my opinion, but I'm sure majority will agree with me. Since /makeleader has been here coming on 4 years, I think we can save that change until content is released.

Fix/add more important things first, also funny how after OP has used it so long within his guild to full advantage for farming/racing now brings it up as if it is a huge hindrance to the game to essentially hurt other building guilds.

The thread is 7 months old, and this is essentially a beta server. Need to make it all proper like for the coming messianic server that is P99[proper][fixed]. Bugs need to be reported no matter how helpful or hurtful.

Appreciate the comment. Velious Dev team is separate from bug fix team. This should take 2 minutes to /**/ out the make leader code. We need more people bumping and adding research to Aeolwind and Nilbog's theads in the main forum to finish off the Velious content. Then we can get our beta on.

This is also a super quick fix.
We like super quick turn around time, where possible, when it comes to classic features.
If I could wave a magic wand and tomorrow you'd log into something that was literally classic EQ. I'd do it. This forum is the next best option.

I'll reiterate on this a bit. Source code /= Content. We spend the majority of our time scouring the wayback machine and mining unsecure sites for information. This request doesn't speed/slow anything at the moment.
This needs to go simply because it makes things a bit easier than they should be. However, I don't know if it would be as easy as /**/, if it is, someone can submit the code and we'll review it and implement it in short order.

I think this statment needs further review, I think the number will be much higher.
More Research must be done, by the time you get it all compiled i daresay it will be 3 years from now, and then it must be beta tested.
dont make this rash change till all the bugs are worked out. !!

Classic was that if the group leader went linkdead there was no leader and you had to reform, iirc. Used to piss me off to no end.

Not trying to be rude but the number of developers are few and there is a ton of higher priority items on the list ... velious, red99 fixes, and teams99 new server ..

The /makeleader and crafting kits combines destroying stuff is pretty trivial stuff. Yeah, not Classic, but its gotta be way, way down the list of things to do. Neither changes gameplay really.

I endorse this change, definitely OP in coth chains and such. Was a major struggle in classic EQ, having to camp out a bunch since groups got bugged. People would lose pets, get disconnected, etc.
I will say though, staff has taken a soft stance on some things such as not putting in the 70% slow on wavecrasher initially (which was unresistable) for sake of having OP items in the multiverse.
Maybe a blind eye will be turned to this as well?

It was part of classic and as mentioned does indeed affect game play with coth chains, group reforms due to LD, and other mechanics.
It could be a small part of a bigger puzzle. Imagine if monk sneak pull mechanic was nerfed along with this (so that monks actually need coth on pulls, instead of just being used to bypass mobs), leader going LD could cause slow downs and issues with monk being stranded.
I get it, its something that should have launched day 1 if devs thought it through... but part of classic is dealing with some of the laughable oversights, helps to make EQ vintage and put a splash of hard mode in there.
