About time. This needs to spread across the country. I don't do it myself but man it's ridiculous that it's illegal. Alcohol is tons worse.

So, Peyton Manning buys 21 Papa John's franchises in and around Denver. Now Colorado legalizes the reefer. Brilliant business move, Manning. Absolutely brilliant.

You do realize that weed being illegal federally requires the DEA to stop any entity selling it right?

oh, heh. forgot people don't grow it like a house plant in the lower 48.

Do you know how many plants a person wanting to smoke 1-2 times a week would have to maintain to keep that intake?

i dont imagine that the citizens and/or authorities in CO or WA would be very pleased if the DEA stepped in started arresting people for doing what has been legally voted on and passed in their state. its going to be very interesting seeing how this all pans out and where they draw the line. some very important precedents will be set in the coming months

No doubt, but I highly doubt the DEA will just not raid the stores openly selling pot. They cracked down on the medicinal marijuana stores in California and not much legislation has gone through congress to stop them from continuing to do so.

not many at all. a good grower with solid nutes and a 1000w HPS can easily pull a pound per plant. 2 months veg, 2 months flower, that gives you three harvests a year. assuming you would be a small time (maybe closet) grower, i imagine you would not have more than 1 or 2 plants.
which means 16-32 ounces every 4 months.
lets assume the average smoker does a gram every single day, thats 30-31 grams per month to smoke.
lets assume you only are pulling in 16 ounces per harvest, (28grams per ounce, 16 ounces per pound, or 448 grams per pound).
448 grams divided by 4 months = 112 grams (4 ounces) per month that you can smoke, every month, and never run out before next harvest is ready.
so to answer your question, a person would have to maintain 1 plant to sustain that intake, and could increase the intake to every day use ;)

First, A 1000w hydroponic system generally costs around $600. Second, you forgot about the curing process. A typical plant gets about 2 ounces cured from indoor growing since you are limited by height, 5 ounces if you are skilled at what you are doing. Outdoor you can have more than a couple of ounces, but their cultivation time is a bit longer, and this discussion is about indoors. The DEA says 1lb per plant yes, but that isn't your average home grower. Down in the thread they are saying yields of 5+lbs per outdoor plant, but those plants are massive. One was quoted at 7 feet wide, 15 feet high and was done outside with no HPS.

you are out of your mind. first of all, i'm speaking from experience, not some second rate magazine that caters to shitty ass companies like greenhouse and barneys farm.
second of all, i never said anything about hydro, however i imagine that if u were using hydro the yields would be greater than in soil.
third, you are correct, i did not mention drying curing. once you get the cycle going year round, you'll be fine. as you are prepping to cure most recent harvest, the nugs that had been in the jars will be ready for long term storage.
fourth, limited by height? do u live in a cave? you dont need more than 8 ft ceiling, assuming the light hangs two feet and is on cords or chains to adjust the height / distance. realistically you dont need the ladies bigger than 5 or 6 feet.
fifth, 2-5 ounces? if i only pulled 2-5 ounces from a plant i would put a fucking bullet through my head.
if you have a 1000w HPS, and you aren't pulling 1lb per plant (or very close, like 13-16 ounces) then you are either doing something horribly wrong, OR you are dealing with second rate plant genetics, like the garbage thats advertised in hightimes.
you want good breeders, go look at companies like Gage Green, Bodhi, E$ko, and maybe some Dankhouse or TGA.
edit: and yes, the lights are not cheap. bulb, ballast, reflector can easily run about 600-700 bucks. but you get your money back in the first grow, and that's not a ridiculous amount of money for a grown up to have anyways

i dont work out door.
but of course they have bigger yield than indoor.. they have the sun :P
that blows my 1000w hps out of the water :P

You are right in that I don't have any experience growing weed myself, but I would put myself closer to the random joe schmoe who would start growing his own weed after this new law goes into affect than to you in terms of experience. I googled and got the first result that hit and did just simple fact checking. I will also admit that you are probably more knowledgeable in the field of growing pot, but I am talking about your run of the mill gardener.
second of all, i never said anything about hydro, however i imagine that if u were using hydro the yields would be greater than in soil.
You are right about that as well. I just figured with a bulb like that at least a simple hydroponic system would accompany it.
third, you are correct, i did not mention drying curing. once you get the cycle going year round, you'll be fine. as you are prepping to cure most recent harvest, the nugs that had been in the jars will be ready for long term storage.
The curing process removes a significant amount of weight since you are drying out the leaves. This was the main reason I brought it up, not so much the added time.
fourth, limited by height? do u live in a cave? you dont need more than 8 ft ceiling, assuming the light hangs two feet and is on cords or chains to adjust the height / distance. realistically you dont need the ladies bigger than 5 or 6 feet.
8ft ceiling is a limit is it not? You couldn't fit a 15ft high, 7ft wide plant in something with an 8ft ceiling right? That is loss of plant structure. But I do agree, 5 or 6ft is a good sized plant by most standards.
fifth, 2-5 ounces? if i only pulled 2-5 ounces from a plant i would put a fucking bullet through my head.
That was quoted from a source I found to be reliable. It may not hold up to your standards, I will admit. But your calculations do need to take in account the curing process before quoting an estimate which is pivotal, unless your 1lb prediction already factors in the curing process, which on average the loss of weight from wet weight to dry weight is about 60-75%. This would mean that you would have to have pulled around 2.5-4lbs wet weight. Seems a little crazy from a 6ft plant, but again, I don't know much about cultivating pot. I only have different sources telling me their experience, and you are now adding to that pool :P

That was some real shit™ ownage right there.
If I'm investing a grand in growing equipment, I'm sure as shit doing a lot more research than someone who just wants to look smart on a message board.
Protip - growing is an art to some folks, and wikiprofessoring a grow artist like you're doing is akin to googling some shit about Ibanez guitars and then telling Steve Vai how he's doing it wrong. Don't be a douche.
