I was discussing this with a group of people in Sebilis today, I know during the classic era of the game if a ranger was groupped, and one of his groupmates died, as long as the ranger didn't cross any zone lines he or she would be able to use the track skill to find said groupmate's corpse. I have noticed that we are unable to do this on project 1999. After a quick search on the forums i couldn't find any discussions on this topic so I thought I would bring it up. Has this been talked about in the past? If not can this be made possible? If anyone else remembers this please chime in I am 100% certain tracking corpses was possible.

You can also track corpses of group members. You must have been in the zone when your friend died, and must now be grouped with them. If you stay in the zone, you will be able to track their corpse. If you leave the zone or camp, you will not be able to track their corpse. Also, you will not be able to track their corpse if the person reenters the zone.

only rangers get the filter .. therefor bards and druids cant set filter to distance ( and yes it has to be set for distance if your a ranger )

skill does increase your range. at skill 65 you can barely track outside of visual range but at skill 200 i can stand in the middle of most zones and track the enitre Zone ( a few zones are jkust to damn big ) about 6-7 k in either direction using the /loc points ( to frineds helped me test it in West Karana )

you will always be able to track group members no matter how far away . You can also track group members corpse as long as you in the zone when they die and they dont come back into zone, very useful.

any other questions?

In this particular discussion people are still saying you could track a groupmate's corpse and all these posts are from 2008 and later. Some were saying corpses could not be tracked at all, others were stating you still could under the same circumstances posted earlier.

I'm glad Silo69 finally found this forum and was able to add his substantive voice.

Looks like some folks over at the vaporware emu had a similar discussion.

Hm...a guy called Heallun Rumblebelly replied and seems to agree with you, Find.

i think it worked that rangers (probably druids too) could track the corpse of group members who werent in the same zone otherwise you would just track that player, this was most likely a bug but yeah the OP isnt lieing

Holy shit, aren't you a useful specimen.

This was a classic bug and was fixed, pre-Kunark I think. No chance of it being implemented here, despite the walls of p99's zones having a fondness for eating bodies.

If you played a tracking class back In 99-00 you would remember being able to track corpses. I will look into this further.

You can track your own corpse if you are bound in the same zone where you died, and do not leave the zone.

Posted on 07-02-2001, after the release of Velious.

This is from the ZAM tracking page, the post in quotation is from March 21, 2003 even later than the link above. I know during this era all tracking classes had the ability to do this.

Who the fuck cares. You're useless no matter what forum you're posting in.

This was definitely a feature (no, really) added to increase Ranger utility. I remember the announcement being made in patch notes, but I couldn't pinpoint a timeframe. I do recall doing it with my ranger in Trak's Teeth while I was still twinking out my rogue, so it would have been before Velious or soon after, I believe.

I stand corrected. My recollection was that we treated it like a bug so it wouldn't go away...and eventually away it went.

Can't track corpses on live? Is there still such a thing as a PC corpse on live?

I am still trying to find some official information on ZAM about this, they have a list of patch notes leading all the way back to 1999 and I so far have not been able to pinpoint when this feature was added/removed. Once I find more concrete evidence I will post something in the bugs section. I also read you aren't supposed to be able to track invisible PCs/NPCs without having see invisible on, which we can do here. I will find it and post the information later when I am not on my mobile device.

Bumping this thread again because I wish to continue the discussion, who else remembers this classic feature?

100% was possible to track corpses on both rangers and druids. I played a druid in '99. I never bothered to post this cause it's not really all that useful, cept at lower levels XP'ing in OD zones. But, it would be a nice added feature.

Any chance we can open this discussion more? Need to make Rangers useful...
