View Full Version : Selecting the EQ / exe shortcut path

Okay... I'm by no means a computer expert, and this seems fairly simply to me, yet it's not working.

I just got Titanium from a friend who lives in the bay area with a group of pirates who eat organic food, then I followed the getting started instructions on here to get the launcher downloaded. Now I'm on the server select area, where I should be able to just hit play, but it's telling me that I have to select the EQ / exe shortcut path.

When the option window pops up I go to select the path manually. I put the files in a new folder under Program Files x86 and named it EQEmu, though doesn't seem to matter what I named the folder because it still won't let me select it. No matter what I do it still says "This is not the correct Everquest directory".

Do this! (http://www.project1999.org/forums/showpost.php?p=752941&postcount=2)

I'm afraid I tried that. Followed the guide very carefully and still when I click the new shortcut it takes me to SOE's EQ game. It won't load Project 1999 by doing that.

I figured maybe it was because the directory for EQ was not in program files, so I moved it, so the target of the eqgame.exe is now labeled correctly like in your guide, being that it's now in program files. Still couldn't get it to work right. =(

hmmm One bit or the other has to be incorrect somewhere. Double triple check!

I've checked it and rechecked it a bazilliontrillion times. =(

The eqhost text file has the following in it:

[LoginServer]
Host=eqemulator.net:5998

And for the target of the shortcut it's:

"C:\Program Files\EverQuest\eqgame.exe" patchme

I can't think what part of that was done wrong, yet when I click the shortcut I still get the SOE EQ.

Try to move it just to C:\<foldername>. I think Windows is trying to do some wonky permissions thing with it.

Okay I did that and it gives me a log in screen that looks suspiciously like the soe version, complete with an old station username that it refuses to forget, and of course the trademark information and stuff.

Earlier it was doing the same thing except it had the background with Firiona Vie or w/e her name is sitting there. Now the background is just black.

I put in my forum username and password to log in but it just says "logging into the server, please wait". Doesn't show any signs of changing. =(

Edit: Well, turns out you need a seperate username and password, so I went to the EQEmu website and did that, logged in with the user/pass and still the same deal. =(

It's almost like you are trying to use the shortcut taken from an EQ Live folder instead of the EMU Titanium folder. Wish I had more to offer, but I'd try deleting the shortcut you're trying to use and create a new one. Do the patchme thing and try one more time.

I am using stuff from the EQ Live folder. I got the Titanium thing but there's really nothing in the folder, just seperate folders for each cd.

Yeah the Titanium folder didn't have a shortcut in it so, or rather it had no game file to make a shortcut from. I used the guide you posted to change the eqhost file in my EQLive folder, and then made a shortcut from the eqgame.exe file inside the EQLive folder as well.

ah ha!

Download VirtualCloneDrive (http://www.slysoft.com/en/virtual-clonedrive.html) and use it to translate the .iso (image) files you found in the bay into working and usable files.

Once you have the files copied into a new directory THEN do all of the steps to get EQ running for this Emulator project.

Eek! I got the virtual clone drive. Lemme see if I can get this all in order...

Inside my Titanium folder I have 5 cd folders, each one had 1 file inside. Now when I right click on each of those files it says they're all mounted with the virtual clone drive (I have literally no idea what I'm doing...) but they can't be moved or copied to another folder because it says they're open in another program. I'm guessing this means they're open in the virtual clone drive or something.

I've been messing with it but I can't really figure out what to do next. I'm sure it's simple but I've just never done this before. It's beyond basic computer skills. =(

Edit: Did manage to get them copy pasted into a new folder.

Edit 2: I feel fancy. I figured out how to get each one of the cd files setup to a different drive, and the first one had an install application so I hit that and it looks like it's installing the actual Titanium version of the game now so, I think I'm on the right track!

From My Computer you should see Virtual CloneDrive, right click on it.

There should be a Virtual CloneDrive entry in the pop-up window list. Highlight it. Another menu should pop up and from there select "mount".

Select the EQ_TITANIUM_CD1.iso file (or whatever your file is named that you torrented) and hit Open. It should open a window that has all of the files found on the 1st CD, copy or move them into a folder you create to hold your EQEMU stuff. Once it's done, follow these steps once for each Titanium disc.

THEN do all of the set up steps necessary to get onto the EQEMU servers.

I copied all of the files off of all 5 cds into a new folder. The issue is that there is still no eqgame.exe aside from the one that was in the original everquest folder that I was using earlier. So there's no eqgame.exe in this new folder I've made. So when I choose it as my directory for EQ from the EQEMU launcher I get the same results.

At this point I've spent the entire day trying to get this to work, and now I've got no more time left to devote to it so I will have to get back to it tomorrow. Hopefully I can get it all sorted out then. It's proving very difficult to get this game to run. =(

I do appreciate your help though.

when you open cd 1 with a virtual drive, it acts as if you put in the actual cd, then you need to install the game normally (not copy all the contents of the cd to a folder like you did)

autorun should pick it up but if not go to my computer, find the virtual cd drive with it, right click and hit autorun or find the install in the files yourself

when the install prompts for the next cds just load them up and select the drive they are in from the cd prompt

I didn't remember having to copy them like that either when I originally did this. I may have to re-install VCD since I'm not getting the correct icon in my system tray for it, p sure I just right clicked on it there to initiate the mount process. Oh well, hopefully he'll get it figured out despite my "help". =P

Thanks for the help! I'll try that as soon as I get some free time tomorrow. Too busy tonight. =( Silly RL gets in the way sometimes.

And Zarah, your assistance got me much farther than I would've gotten on my own! =) Had I been left to my own devices I certainly would've gotten to watch my pc go up in flames.

Okay so... I downloaded Everquest Titanium. I see no actual file for it anywhere, it seems to have just gone into my existing Everquest files. At any rate, I still don't know what to do after that.

The EQEmu launcher will not let me select the new folder I made for P99 even when I have all the Titanium files in it. I moved the eqgame.exe from the main Everquest folder to the new P99 folder and THEN it let me select it on the launcher options, but then files are missing from it and it still won't load.

If I choose the basic Everquest directory as the target, it just seems to load SOE's version of the game, or something like it with a black background that will never actually get past the log in screen.

I did the whole thing with changing the eqhost file, then made a shortcut of eqgame.exe, then added the patchme onto the target, still the same result.

It sounds like you still have EQ Live installed prior to trying to get Project99 going. I would highly recommend at this point for you to uninstall EQLive, and again install EQ Titanium using the same method as before. It is possible to install both of them to separate directories but that seems like it might need to be a conversation for another day. After uninstalling EQLive, installing EQ Titanium, and then following the guide you should be good to go, if you get stuck anywhere else let me know.

Feel free to reply back here or PM if you have any questions.

Btw, how is the SWG EMU, I know its in beta, but I was on SWG at day one and a throw back to the way things were seems like it could be a lot of fun. (Same reason I play on this server obviously).

I see the population listed at 1700+ many nights, is that accurate? If so that's a pretty large population it would seem.

Thanks I'll give that a shot. =) I mainly had the regular EQ installed because it still seems really active for a game that's this old, especially when there's a "better" version available. Figured like everyone would've left the live version for this one by now but dunno.

As far as SWG goes, it is fantastic. I played 2005-2011 so I never really got a chance to play pre-CU, or even CU for that matter. I started literally like a month after the NGE hit. So it's ALL new to me really.

The SWGEmu has a fairly small, but dedicated development team, but they did just lose 1 or 2 programmers for it so it'll be slow for a while.

The game is technically still in alpha testing, and has ONE more scheduled wipe in the future, at an undetermined time, though it's estimated to be at least a year away. After that the game is officially released.

Even then it's more than playable right now. However, there's no space yet, and there are a few professions missing. They are having an issue coding the pet stuff, so there's no droids from Droid Engineer, and Creature Handler doesn't technically work either so.

The population is great. We were server capped at 2000 almost all day long a while back, but with updates slowing down and GW2 hitting it is more in the 1500-1800 range lately.

Sorry, long post. SWG in any form is my "home", so I love telling anyone who will listen all about it. =)

Awesome, are Jedi in their pre CU form, unlocked by completing random professions X Y Z?

I may try to install it soon, I have install media for the older version still I know. If I do I'll send you an email in game.
