State of gate guards?

Pretty simple question here. Are gate guards killable, and lootable? I remember killing Freeport gate guards for exp back in the day, but I know at some point they changed the guards to be basically invincible, so how is it in this game?

You can kill them. Gate guards hit significantly harder than other guards though, and have more HP.

Most guards drop Fine Steel weapons. And he is right the ones right at a gate or entrance are really tough.

I killed the two at the Qeynos gate the other night. They seemed to be basic level 50 warrior mobs with 32k HP. No insane regen, didn't hit particularly hard, no crazy resists. Just a long root-rot.

After that I pulled Lieutenant Dagarok, to get revenge for all the good gnoll-fang-loving citizens of Qeynos he's accosted over the years. He was pretty easy, too; no different than the gate guards aside from the HT.
