So I was chatting with a friend last night about how much more we know about EQ thanks to P99 and how much better players we are now. I didn't know about half of the crap I know about now when I was on live for years.
So what items or tricks have you gotten/learned here that have significantly elevated your performance? I'm sure a lot of the newer players would love to get these tips too.
A few for me, as an enchanter:
Leatherfoot Raider skullcap - life saver (instant WC port, costs 180p to recharge)
Goblin Gazaughi Ring - mana saver (resulting from more efficient charm breaks)
The power of charm - I avoided charming on live for the most part until AA's.
Double invising - works wonders
Nybright sisters - great low level exp and fund collection spot.
IIRC, invis+ivu did not work on live, they overwrote one another, so it would've been tough to learn that "trick" before playing on p99.

You're gonna give away all my secrets! :)
Shovel of Ponz (or any of the magician focus items) - reclaim your pet for mana; this can be a lifesaver if you run OOM, giving you enough for a few heals, or gate, or whatever.
Fang Amulet of Calling (Shaman only) - instantly summons a pet. Used in conjunction with reclaim energy, you can summon a pet and then instantly reclaim it for a little bit of free mana.
Reaper of the Dead - instant complete heal, usable from inventory, castable on others.
There's plenty more but those are some of my favorites, in addition to the WC cap.

Mage focus items can be clicked from inventory. Every post-34 shaman should have one.

Necros too? I heard necro focus items were harder to get hold of... but never really looked into it.

There is only one necro focus item available on this server, and it drops from Inny.

I hope for the sake of all necros that no non-necros have had the chance to see if it works from inventory.

You can double invise on live.

I always practiced canni-dancing back on live and henceforth... but recently I've applied the same principle to all spellcasting: wait for a meditate up-tick before standing to cast unless it's a hair-on-fire emergency. Makes a remarkable difference in efficiency...

Instant charm break. Helps you better control .... your crowd control.

Only works for animals though, yeah?
Also, while very convenient (especially for druids) the furthest thing from my mind would be the mana savings.

Was curious myself - so I googled it. Apparently the big draw for this ring is that it is a mana-free insta-cast charm-breaking spell.

Any invis spell will break charm... and also poof summoned pets, I think.

It's an insta-click invis, so it breaks charm. Without it, you either have to be a dark elf and hide (bleh) or cast invis...that takes time and mana and a spell slot. With a ring you can run your pet/mob down to low low hp and finish with a low level nuke and save mana.

I'd suggest the mana savings is mostly a product of charming, but I understand now. Thanks.

I rarely used Cannibalize on my Shaman back in '99. I was probably one of the worst shamans playing at the time. Then again i was about 13.

Plus, if I am correct, it is self only so you do not have to change target then try to re-aquire the now ticked off former pet to cast on it for the kill :)

Rangers can actually tank pretty decently, all you have to do is log out and roll a warrior.

Read the first part of that and went WHAT MAGICAL EXPLOIT IS THIS, second part explained it all

I learned that a cracked staff will never break! When I started playing way back in 1999 when EQ first started ... the first cracked staff I got at level 1 or 2 I kept thinking "when will this thing break, it's already cracked. Should I hold onto an extra one in case this one breaks?".
Ok, not game breaking, but might give a few people a good laugh :)

clickies, constantly vendor recharging (some potions like kilva's skin recharge a LOT cheaper than shaman purchasing), hide pulling pre-nerf...halfling cleric solo pulling fungi king, never forget :3. Using potions for literally everything (cleric with 40 pt ds, seems legit). Before kunark there was a pot in neriakc that took you to the dark elf camp in lesser fay, after they broke the xloccers it was damn vital. being bound @ td firepots is p much mandatory, feel bad for non porting casters who are not.
Oh, invis assist pulling. Shit makes places like HS and seb king more bearable to be sure. Hoping that one remains, but who knows o_O.
edit: Oh, and sunskin in a group with 2 mages and an enchanter. They love that shit.
