Anyone up for having an open raid, for people not in raiding guilds and wouldnt mind a few pieces of planar gear? Perhaps a hate raid would be a gwud choice.I would be down and could find time on weekends, night morning or day

Just making sure I am understanding this right. People who aren't in a raiding guild, or people who don't want to be in a raiding guild, wants to form a raid for a raid zone and get raid gear?

Raid gear without logging into guild chat spam/whining/drama. Sounds good to me!

Not quite as depressing as your 30 pop server though.

Lots of pick up raids were successful on live. Just don't see the point personally. The whining/spam/drama still happens in pick up raids, maybe even more so lol
But most of the time the pick up style raids I remember were formed and ran by misfits that had been kicked out of multiple guilds because of their whining/drama. Maybe it was just my server that it was this way.

With all the guilds currently gunning for any and all targets I just wonder how feasible this really is.

Open raids were pretty common in this era on live. That said, there was usually a guild leading it that merely didn't have sufficient numbers.
Even so, they were usually massively disorganized debacles that took 6+ groups to break fear, with multiple wipes.

fear/sky is a terrible pick up raid, but plane of hate is totally doable with a few groups of random people as long as the port in goes well.

Agreed. Just pick a day/time and advertise for pick-up raid. You'll need a strong (vocal) leader and lots of communication.
But go for it!!

Too bad the community on this server is less willing to help others.
Totally not true. We like to help each other discover our weaknesses on a daily basis. :)

In all reality you can't actually believe that those pickup raids were put together under altruistic intentions. The individuals putting them together needed something from there too, so they were putting the raid together to get themselves the gear/raiding experience they needed.

The open raids I experienced on Maelin Starpyre were ANYTHING BUT "bands of failing misfits."
We killed numerous POP targets, including Agnarr, Terris, Tallon/Vallon and Saryn.
Pickup raids were a HUGE deal during POP and well-geared members of the larger guilds often participated to help with backflagging.

On Live my guild was not allowed to help on these raids. Not unless they were way beneath us. They gave our members lockouts, and made it hard to find targets up when we wanted to raid. Our guild/raid leader told us not to go on them even on alts, that we would do back flagging nights for our alts in due time.
That being said it doesn't change the fact that this is an MMO. Not a single player role playing game. Join a guild. Meet some new people, makes some friends, enjoy the ride together. I can guarantee that kill on Phara Dar or even Cazic Thule is much more enjoyable doing it with a bunch of people you have grouped with, raided with, helped gear, helped epic, and been through the hard times with. It's not nearly as satisfactory as jumping in a raid full of 50 people you don't know and zerging something to death.
This is just my opinion though. And only a suggestion. So take it for what it's worth. There are a lot of guilds out there looking for competent players who can become a part of their guild and have fun with them. Ones that don't require raid attendance.
Innoruuk had PUGs (scalraid) killing Fennin and everything below during PoP, Ikkinz Raids in GoD, etc. You'd be surprised how successful pugs can be with a geared tank or two, a puller who knows the zone, and 1-2 non-idiot clerics.
Anyhow, Hate and Fear shouldn't require more than a single group of 55+. I know we were doing it on VZTZ with 2 level 50 mages (minis included), granted pet aggro there was more like live than here. The benefit to more people is the getting loot at a non-dogshit rate (VZTZ had droppable planar so it was ok). Fears the same boat - you have shamans soloing the break in - a group of 55+ will be fine. These aren't raid zones.
Sky is a different story and the mobs that are worth it probably wouldn't even be up.

Open raiding forces are still productive in EQ aslong as everyone knows their role and how to accomplish the goal as 1 unit.
