error 1018

Hello,
I'm pretty new here, I just started last week. A few people might know me as Kumadar, currently a level 10 necromancer. So far the game has been great, everyone is super friendly and helpful. I was just logging on for a bit but when I try to join the server (project1999, ruins of Kunark) I get the message, "Error 1018: You currently have an active character on that EverQuest Server, please allow a minute for synchronization and try again."

What does this mean? I'm kind of concerned, given what it suggests...I changed my password just in case, but waiting still doesn't let me log in. I've confirmed that I can connect to other servers and enter the game world on those...I'm hoping this is some kind of server hiccup but I'd appreciate any input just to be sure. Thanks!

I keep getting this same error now. Sometimes it will be 5 hours before I can log on. Most times it has been 12+ hours since the last time I played too.

It's a known issue that really sucks. It's account specific.

If you're under level 20, I would *strongly* suggest making a new account and using that.

If you're more invested in your character than that, you can try to reinstall EQ to a new directory and leave your current install in the directory its in. Then try alternating between the two clients - sometimes this solves the problem, but not always.

Again, this is a known issue with no known fix. The best idea is to simply make a new account.

The problem is account specific on the server side, not client specific. I have tested logging in from multiple computers, IPs, and locations with no success. My account has been returning 1018 now for over 24 hours.

He's frustrated Swish. He's trying to call attention to this issue in hopes it will get looked at again. It's just thread bumping, not really hurting anyone. He didn't even call anyone any names.

This bug completely negates the ability for people to play the game. Attention needs to be raised about this issue even if that means casting a 0% rez on the thread.

I think it might be related to EQEMU, not necessarily the P99 server.

I have no way of confirming such, but I have never experienced this bug on any other server. I have written a lengthy bug report describing my experiences.

I imagine this is what EQEMU says and the reason they won't investigate the issue further.

The servers are different and it wouldn't surprise me if the others didn't have coding to prevent /quit exploitation.

Here we go again, Blue down but Red up. It always seems to happen on the weekends too, I have noticed.

In the case of 'active character message' I have had luck in the past by connecting to the red server and then going back to login. Not sure if this will help you. The other error 1017 rerun update is a different issue.

Just tried this, did not work. I am already on my max accounts available and my others were made back around 2009, and I don't have access to the email they were linked to or a way to reset my e-mail addresses for those accounts. The function is disabled on both the EQEmu site, and P99.

Really kind of miffed. Guess I have to go make a new everything. p99 has been my pub since I got a computer again... someplace outside of work that I could go get my fix and socialize, have some fun and meet people. This stupid error is like getting 86'd from a bar for making t-shirts for people (hey I'm that guy in FoB giving out raw silk btw!) Why hasn't this error been addressed / fixed yet?

Game froze, so I exited out. Trying to get back in about 30 minutes later and it's giving me error 1018. When I try to log into my other account, I'm told I have a temporary ban on my IP. Anything I can do, or just be patient and hope this doesn't go on for hours/days as some others have reported?

Its got to be an issue with the P99Files50h (or whatever version) files you're running. I am getting the same error when i try to connect to Blue after having played Green last night without issue. Now, I can't log into Blue. I've not tried to log back into Green. I'm guessing regressing back to 50d will solve my issue with Blue connectivity. Also, I do not run EQEMU.

After reinstalling P99Files50d (overwriting the P99Files50h) I am able to log into Blue again.

Booooo.... just got this on green server. It's been an hour.....still can't log in :( I am able to create a new char on blue server, log him out, log in, tried green server again, still no-go :(
