Hey folks, returning player from velious era retail EQ. I was a rogue on xegony/zebuxoruk all through depths of darkhollow. I cannot for the life of me remember what EQ was like back in velious/kunark era. As far as the class balancing goes for groups and such, coupled with solo ability I am having a class choice dilemma. I do enjoy tanking, but as I remember the warrior class was a bit bland in the abilities area and had aggro problems. What is the charm solo ability like for enchanters back in the P1999 era? What about any shortages of clerics? Shadowknight fear kiting ability?

Welcome to P1999!
Play what you will have fun with. Its a long road to 60.
Chanters charm solo, clerics almost always get groups, SKs can fearkite, and no one likes rangers still.

You pretty much need to sacrifice DPS for proc weapons to maintain aggro as a Warrior. As long as you are geared correctly, you'll be fine. I never go LFG for very long. I wouldn't say there's a shortage of clerics, but I wouldn't say there's too many of them either.

And it seems like aggro weapons are better understood and/or more available than in 1999/2000.

As someone who is somewhat new to P99 I can share a small problem I had. I played a Wizard on Live for 9 years. So I started one here, because it's what I was familiar with, and knew the quests and spells and such. Once I got him to 50+ I hit a wall. I quickly remembered the things I had forgotten over the years.

I got so burnt out on being a Wizard again I started a rogue. And I don't regret it one bit. Having a blast.

My advice is play something different from live. And unless you are starting a Healer/Tank play something that can solo. Groups for DPS can be hard to find when you need them and it's nice being able to solo if you have too.

But in the end just play what you have the most fun playing. As Ravaak pointed out, it's a long road to 60. Might as well make it a fun one.

That's cool, I played on Zebuxoruk mostly too. I wonder if I knew your rogue, there was this gnome that we would hang out with.

Well as of now, I am bouncing between a warrior, shadowknight or possibly an enchanter because the level of CC, mana regen buffs and charm soloing sounds fun as hell. Some enchanters back in retail were AMAZINGLY skilled. Ive also kicked around playing a bard, but they always looked incredibly hard to play. I am obviously starting out here, so I dont have a fbss and twink weapons or anything to make the melee life easier. Rusty Sword and rations is about it lol.

Rusty Sword and rations is about it lol.

That's half the fun I reckon! At some point its inevitable someone will give you an upgrade to a cracked staff or rusty long sword and you'll slowly work your way up the gear charts.

Quite a few twinks among the low levels these days, which has its good points and bad points...but many of them are keen to help new players. Enjoy it, try a few starting areas on different characters...rediscover the classic stuff :D

Never had any issues maintaining aggro in kunark/velious raids and dungeons as a warrior with horrible equipment. Honestly I think the aggro issue is blown out of proportion a lot.

It really is, until you have a monk/rogue who don't like to drop aggro via evade/fd or the caster that nukes mobs at 99%

I was being facetious. There has been an rise in the number of rangers lately it seems. They are probably as groupable as a SK or Pally.
