Yesterday, I bump into a Ranger and we are hunting in Frontier Mountains. Everything going smoothly and too easy, so we decide to adventure a bit and go to Temple of Droga. We kill the first Goblin no problem. I go to look around for the next mob to pull, and I fall through the floor. Is there an ingame skill that can detect/see these pits?
Research the area via wiki before you go venturing into new territory

The ingame skill will be you safely getting out of there without assistance if you can't otherwise gate or port. That should be fun.

Anyone else initially think this thread was a troll because of the bolded areas? :D

Talk to the EQ devs. Rogues and bards should be able to see this if they are anything like the AD&D classes. Dwarves and maybe gnomes too iirc.

I don't know what's worse, hunting with a ranger or falling in pits. Is the pit a metaphor for hunting with a ranger? I don't understand this thread.

Hah I know right? I wish I could get lost and fall in traps I'm not aware of again. Good times! I remember my first trip in Blackburrow, fell through the trap floor in the tree trunk right near zone line and my heart sank when I died, I thought I would never see that corpse again lol. Then the scarey adventure going down to get it with a couple other players. Man oh man to be young again.

My favorite pit would be the one in Najena that drops you into a locked jail cell. Classic EQ fun. Doesn't seem like all that much fun when it happens to you though.

Yeah lol but looking back on it you can't beat that feeling of helplessness this game used to instill in us.

On my first trip to Blackburrow I went down that too. Never saw that gear again :/ Gave up that char soon afterwards to start my second and long-time main.

QFT.
The abstract version of the OP's story has probably happened over a thousand times during the life of EQ: Mid-level characters killing in the relative safety of a Kunark outdoor zone say to themselves, "Let's go kill in a Kunark dungeon," and then they get there and all hell breaks loose. The possible zone combinations in this story include LOIO to Kurn's, FM to Droga, OT to Dalnir, KC to Chardok, etc.
Perhaps my fondest EQ memory came from this sort of experience. I was in a group that was cruising in OT, when somehow we decided to go to Dalnir, without a porter. We eventually ended up on the bottom floor. I can still remember standing at the entrance to that long dining room filled with Kly, realizing that our only hope was to invis up and try to make a run for it. Making that run was quite an adrenaline rush, especially when some of our invises dropped early...

Hah I was too damn scared to go into kunark dungeons back then I guess. I was even scared to go into the sarnak fort in lake of ill omen and the goblin cave? forget about it lol. first kunark dungeon I stepped into was KC whne I was of appropriate lvl.

Rogues get Sence Trap at level 8. Don't think every Pit is a trap, but a lot are.
