Curious to why these were taken out of game? I remember on live they were still in game they just were stupid rare.

Nope they got removed pretty early.

I just always recalled it was on the same 'rarity' as Staff of the Dreaded Gaze, where people thought it no longer dropped bc the drop rates were horrendous.

Negatory, it went away completely rather early along with its lustrous russet pals
