I know the dev's will probably either A) completely ignore me or B) provide a long, detailed BS explanation why the public can't see how it's programmed on this free game.... BUT I thought i'd try anyway just to cure my curiosity.
I've been doing a little bit of "unofficial" testing for charm by changing my CHA and noting the level differences of mobs... I've found that CHA really doesn't play a role at all and the level difference is a HUGE (along with MR) factor.
Sorry if there is an identical thread to this one... I searched but didn't see anything.
If anyone else has anything interesting to add in here please do, I'm curious.

Quote:
Q: What spell types are affected by Charisma?
A: Charisma does not directly affect any spell. Charisma affects what are known as 'saving throws' or 'secondary throws'.
When you cast a charm spell or mesmerise spell, the monster first checks against your level v it's level, then it checks against its resistance, then it checks against your charisma.
With duration spells such as charms, each tick the monster gets a saving throw and this process is repeated. If any one of these checks is successful (ie: you win the roll) then the spell holds.
Be aware thought that each of these checks is not just a 50 - 50 chance, formulas are in place which give each of these checks more or less of a chance for you to succeed.
Charisma has the smallest chance of succeeding. Your Level and the resistance type check have the greatest chance of you succeeding.

So, do bards, druids, enchanters (necros?) try to have high cha? Old school thought was always (esp on chanters) to get it very high, but people don't seem to consentate so much on it anymore. What is the modern way of thinking?

CHA is an afterthought for me. From my experience, Lull critically resist (aggro) has more to do with LOS than my CHA. I do rock ~140-150 CHA without much effort though. Mez and charm are more affected by level disparity between myself and the mob than anything.
But I've never bothered acquiring 200+ CHA to test the difference.

Enchanter was my main in EQ back in the day, for years, and even then charisma was never a stat I concerned myself with.
I did a lot of parsing back then to try to prove or disprove the charisma vs. charm length debate that always seem to be ongoing and never did see a difference. I'll have to see if I still have all that documentation. I know I posted it on Casters Realm and later The Runes, but last time I checked I couldn't find it there...
That said, I never tested on whether higher char affected charm or mezz resist rates.

Charm has been coded and recoded many times over the course of the server; when I joined charisma had a huge, huge effect but I think now its quite minimal. Personally I go for over 200 cha just because its easy with enchanter-specific gear and also for the incredibly powerful Lull line. But I gear Loraen for HP/AC above everything else.

Oh and also I once did a test of 20 charms (255 vs 200 cha) and rapidly realized that the variance on each individual charm was so large that it would take hundreds of samples to get an accurate formula.

bottom line is CHA does effect charm but the impact it is very minimal. if you want to charm well go for hp/ac gear so you can handle the breaks better. this doesnt mean to ignore cha though, if you can raise it at the same time go ahead and do so

being an enc for almost 13 years now; CHA DOES improve my charms lasting-ness. As i level i tend to favor charming teals/green as well (which tends to max the timer for charm) But even charming blues/whites i can hold them for a good enough time with my CHA+CHA buff
So in short; CHA does help, but like catherin said lean towards HP/AC gear (but i would keep CHA/INT a close second to those)

You can charm 50s at 50 with any kind of duration to speak of? Or evens at any level with any kind of consistency?
