From what I recall on live, a player consuming a sow potion received a sow of the level of the potion maker, that is if a 50 Shaman made the potion, you get a level 50 sow with the speed and duration as if that shaman had cast the spell on you.

I have a level one spell mule that I gave some potions to. When he uses a sow potion, it wears off in ~ one minute. It's apparently casting it as if a level one shaman cast the spell? Thanks.

Yes, but I think you need to find evidence : /. Good luck. My brain and fingers are tired!

Well the only thing I can find to back it up is from one of the Sony devs in 2006 from this thread: http://crucible.samanna.net/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1832

Sunyn, that's definitely not the way it's supposed to work.

The potions have an effective caster level assigned to them that overrides the caster's actual level, which means that the benefit you're getting from said potion is always going to be exactly as it was as if the caster was level 'X', where 'X' is the level assigned to the potion.

That said, I've already forwarded this on to our QA team to verify and make sure that it's working the way I've just explained, and if it's not, it will be fixed.

I always thought it was based upon the potion takers level...
Curious what else you will find.

It should be based on the level of the person that made it at the time.

Should be a fun little coding task.

Again, hard to find information on things that weren't ever broken in classic but have issues here.

say what?

Read that dev quote again.

It says nothing about the level of the char that made the potion. The dev is stating that it's a fixed level effect, based on the potion itself.

I do seem to recall that the OP is right. I could swear it was in a patch message once upon a time.

This is 2006. I think the 'level' of the potion that they are talking about is the strength of the potion: i.e. Philter of the Wolf IV > Philter of the Wolf III.

If you look on lucy, these have an assigned level with them:

The old potions do not.

Personally, I'm not sure that the game's original code even had a way of keeping data of the creator's level upon creation of an item ID. I could be wrong though.
