View Full Version : Taking the plunge

After reading the posts on the blue forums and the ones here on red, I've decided I'm going to spend my time leveling up on red. There aren't as many people, but that makes it a closer knit group (or so I'd like to think). Plus there aren't tons of threads of people selling Fungi tunics when the only people who can afford them are ones who previously sold one. I just want a more level playing field to start off with.

Here's my one question, would a bard make a good character to play around with? I love the utility/fun of a bard, but sadly I don't think they're going to be winning many pvp fights. I might be able to escape lots of them, but never win. I guess I should be happy with that. Anyway.... if anyone can offer some advice on if that's a good choice I'd appreciate it. It's either that or try working a monk up... we all know how much fun that can be without the ability to twink at all.

Thanks guys!

Bard is excellent for farming and an all star in pvp, it's a great all around choice!

Bard would make a fantastic choice as a first toon.

Welcome aboard.

Thanks all! I guess I'll see some of you soon! (or maybe not. Not sure how easy it's going to be getting around)

Welcome.

Bards can win pvp if they're played right and outdoors. There are scenarios where all classes are stronger or weaker, but nothing trumps a bard with room to move, esp with some decent gear/resists.

If you need a port or some help, feel free to bump your thread. Its likely someone will try to help you in game straight away.

Any help anyone's willing to throw my way is appreciated, but not necessary. Starting out in Qeynos. Mmm... some good newbie quests here. heh

You can have a level 50 rogue if you respond within 2 minutes with who led the nets in fg % in 2007

I'll be hanging out in Qeynos for a while I think doing gnoll fangs after I get out of the newbie area. Whenever you're in the neighborhood.

wow thats very nice of you Heartbrand, helping noobs.

re: the noob in qeynos.. lots of quests in that area besides gnoll fangs. Then bandits in West Karana for the sash quest that gives good money bronze weapons to sell and faction/xp.

I'm thinking of making a wizard. Can Wizards solo safely? I'm kind of scared - but I'd love to play a class that can solo if they like, along with being viable in groups AND pvp.

Also - if down the road I'd like to gear up a level 1 can wizards solo bosses? Obviously not level 50 bosses. But somewhat effective?

Root / DD doesn't work right? Root breaks on Dmg? So wizards in close quarters like Lower Guk would be bad to solo those named? Unless u can 1 shot them of course.

noone can solo safely but some are more safe than others. honestly if you /who all the time there isnt much of a chance of getting ganked.

all classes are viable in pvp, dont let anyone fool you, some better than others but ya gotta like what you play ultimately.

not sure what "Also - if down the road I'd like to gear up a level 1 can wizards solo bosses? Obviously not level 50 bosses. But somewhat effective?" means :/

root DD until you are able to quad. root breaks on dmg but you nuke hard and as long as you keep your distance you are fine. add jboots to the mix and you are golden. wizard in close quarters prob not a good idea to solo.

If I wanted to twink a character, I'd need a character that can solo bosses effectively. Can wizards do this? If not - i'll probably roll a character than can.

AKA farm bosses for loot to give a level 1 of mine.

Solo farming champion would be the necro.

This server has 30 players.

Not trying to be a dick, just sayin'. Any class would be welcome, I'd think.

So 20 necromancers...

Wizard is a fine choice if thats what you want. Yes they can solo and yes they can take down bosses. After you get wiz epic you are the boss.

Etris.

Wizards are a viable solo class, they do amazing in pvp, and have been known to be the best KS'ers because of their burst damage.

Wizards can solo...

Necros solo like GODS...

And Mages are the safe, soft, easy way out...

(I play a 50 Mage and I can tell you there are more necros than mages back when the server was thriving but that does not mean there are a surplus of necros now)

Plus Necro's get some cool things along the way, as do Wizards with Epic like Tr0ll said.

You can quad to 60 from 34.

Have fun getting the runes for the 34 spell though.

Can we put item loot in or stop calling it 'Red'? Either is fine. Keep the PvP title in there, just no red in the name.

Isn't Enchanter the king of soloing nameds? I might be wrong (I ususally am). I figured charming works pretty well for that type of stuff

Enchanter are Gods at soloing nameds yes, you need to be very skilled though.

chanter is a soloing god in the right hands, necro is close but is alot more forgivable (strong pet, fd, lifetaps, snare, ect)
