Hi guys,

I am interested in trying Vanguard since it is free to play now (and I never got to experience it on release), but I am worried about launching the "live" patcher and losing all my Project 1999 files.

I have searched the forums, but I haven't found a clear answer on switching between "live" games and the Emu. Right now, I run p99 from the icon on my desktop that I wrote "Patch me" in and had to change the host, etc.

When I click the Vanguard icon, it starts the "live" launcher, but it says something about an error while locating the local files. Is this because of how I am connecting to the Emu server because I changed the host?

I'd like to switch between the two games regularly.

Thank you!

It shouldn't interfere at all. It's a completely separate game. Even with Live Everquest the patcher shouldn't interfere, speaking form experience as I have Live, EQMac, and two EQEmu clients installed myself. That is, unless you have the patcher directed at your EQ folder (why you would do this for a Vanguard install, I haven't the slightest clue).

I'm certain the error you receive is an issue dealing with an incorrect install or a bug on SoE's part. I would direct this issue with them or double check how you have the patcher etc set up.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I am not too good with computers so sometimes I need things clarified. Basically, just uninstall VG and re-download it / re-patch it (and hope it will correct itself)?

Would it be wortwhile / easier to use Duxa's launcher?

I was afraid that Station Launcher would patch over p99, and I'd have to move all those files around.

Duxa's deals with P99, not any other games. Dunno if you were referring to using it on the Vanguard install or not lol, I may have misread.

As for Vanguard. I've not used Vanguard or it's patcher, but assuming it's the same as Everquest Live's (as Sony likes uniformity typically) it should be pretty simple. Download the patcher/launchpad's installer, install it. It will then ask for a spot to install the game, select one/create one, install it. Make sure it isn't on top of your EQEmu install.

You should have your EQEmu install directly in C:\ drive. Not Program Files. Vanguard install, as I said, shouldn't interfere anyway, but this will make it even safer as next to nothing installs/defaults directly to C:\ anyway. Plus this makes it much easier to modify and run EQEmu clients, particularly due to the lack of spaces in the path, as opposed to the space in "Program Files" or spaces in "Program Files (x86)". You should always install EQEmu clients directly to C:\ drive, regardless of the client type (Titanium, Underfoot etc) or the server you play on due to this reason alone.

If EQEmu's Launcher is what you're worried about, they are completely different launchers with completely different operating styles.
