View Full Version : Decided to join Red99

Hi. I have decided to join the Red99 server for the first time. Also my first time posting on forums.
Actually started on Vallon Zek back in the day probably a few months or so before Kunark officially came out. (Still remember the server wide yellow text that announced the launch of the continent back in the day.) I believe I quit after a few months of that Luclin expansion, way too much lag for such a lame computer with only about 128 megs of ram.
I found out about Project1999 early on when it was still in beta testing noticing only about 16 - 26 people helping the server launch so I hung out on that grand creation PEQ till it finally launched. Sadly I missed the official P99 launch date but did create a wizard on day 3 and it was incredibly fun as everything seemed perfectly classic.
So my biggest reason for joining Red99 is because I guess I just don't fit in with the Blue99 crowd considering both wizards I created on P99 got perma banned.
My first wizard was Eirik Tik and I had a blast leveling him up with the P99 crowd. I found groups on a constant basis because early on we had global OOC and one message of LFG I usually got a tell within minutes. The most fun I had was leveling in high pass in my late teens and early 20's where I was invited into a guild called Divinity since I always seemed to land a group with some of its members and we just got along just fine.
Around the level of 43 I suppose I had a momentary lapse in judgment being infuriated by some mean Transcendence members who tended to train groups and just ruin peoples time including mine. I don't remember the characters name but regrettably I lashed out at the Transcendence member telling him, "You're hurting your mother by not getting a job."
Well, that seemed to have hit a very sensitive nerve because quickly I was graced with a tell by a character named "cyrius" or something of the sort that told me, "LOL banned." Needless to say within seconds I got the black screen of "You have been disconnected."
I didn't see a point in trying to appeal the decision for I didn't think I could win over my case against such an obviously professional ruling. I suppose I deserved it. So I believe I took about a 4-6 month break and decided to start all over fresh with a brand new wizard. (Had to update my internet connection from dial-up to broadband since I was IP banned.)
My second wizard was named Draves and well it wasn't such a blast this time around for a couple reasons. Getting back to my 40's was quite the grind because after that length of time I waited global OOC was taken out and I virtually never could find a group so it took about triple the amount of time soloing back to my 40's.
The most fun I had with my second wizard was when I was 46+ I got a tell from who I think was the guild leader of Venom asking me to join because they always wanted to raid hate but could never find a wizard online to port them when they wanted to raid. Of course I joined immediately for who doesn't like being needed? I loved porting them to hate and raiding with them because well I never did it back in 1999 (thanks to poor computer.) As far as I could tell I was the wizard they relied on and we raided quite a bit making sure to be online every time they scheduled a raid. Unfortunately Venom didn't last too long.
Anyways, one day I went out of my way to port someone to plane of sky and they were down right rude about it making it seem like my soul duty in everquest was to be their port slave. So I decided to port them to west karana instead and leave them there until I got a apology from their bad attitude towards me. But according to the everquest gods it is my soul duty to be everyone's port slave and I was deemed a scammer server wide by yellow text from the gods then shortly after perma banned once again at the level of 55.
So I figure this will be my third times a charm and decided to start up here on Red99 guessing this is where I belong. At least if i'm disliked on this server maybe i'll just be corpse camped for a while instead of losing months on top of months of grinding by being perma banned. This must be where I was meant to be and hopefully I can actually help kill a dragon one day and experience that raiding scene that I rarely ever see.
Didn't mean to be such a plague on Blue99 and really thought I was just invisible more than anything else.
Wow - didn't expect to type such a lengthy introduction. Honestly I have been drinking a bit.

Things are more lenient here. As long as you don't train or exploit something that you've been told not to exploit in the past, you basically won't get banned (rofl).
Theres a crew of new guys leveling right now. Hang in there till kunark, pop will rise again. Don't expect to see more than 50-70 here until then.
Welcome.

how do you know they're not bannable offenses here? asking for real that is kinda scary

I really hope you didn't get banned for those two reasons because that is appalling and completely immature. Cyrius is a total jerk if he really sent you a tell saying "LOL banned" before your ban. If what you say is true I'd guess he's really low class irl.

Never heard of you on VZ.
If you came looking for pvp on red99, you will be deeply disappointed. The average player base is around 12, and of those 12, 8 are apart of the same guild who do not like to pvp.

i told someone to get a job in global ooc last night and didnt get banned so im gonna go head and say its ok
well technically it was "put it on your resume and get a job" in regards to a 50 bragging bout being 50
its ok he hit 49 and stopped bragging, these things have a way of working themselves out

Just a little backstory for new guys.
There was a bunch of people on the server when it started, most got burnt out at 50 after completing most of what classic had to offer outside of raiding. Now they are mostly waiting for more bars to fill, more items to obtain, thus more people to kill.
There were a couple guilds who "liked to pvp", that ended up actually being pretty horrible at pvp come game time. They had 10:1 casters to all other class ratio in both guilds, obviously only chose their classes for their gank capabilities (wiz/dru), and could not compete in organized pvp with any degree of success against the guild that "doesn't like to pvp". Now they mad, and come on the forums to flame every positive post.
Good news, most of them are fading away and Kunark is coming out soon. It will be the first kunark pvp server thats even remotely close to what it was like during 99-01 era of EQ. Things will pick up. Sweet breezy times ahead.

Just a little backstory for new guys.
There was a bunch of people on the server when it started, most got burnt out before they could even reach 50 and did not get to experience what classic has to offer. Now they are mostly hoping for drastic changes such as a massive experience increase, active interest in the server from developers and possibly a wipe as a last resort to once again spark interest in this server.
There were a couple guilds who enjoyed to pvp, and a couple decent battles were fought. Most did not really focus their efforts and go in with an optimal PvE-type guild, and after a big debacle where an entire guild ended up being punished in a extremely poorly handled situation the majority of that guild stopped playing and the top-end situation started a steep downward spiral. As of this moment they still hang around and troll these boards.
Currently there are no good news, most of the server have already faded away and the only guild who is really active on the server is <Nihilum> and they've never been happier. The PvP is non-existant but it does not really bother them, they're mainly here for the PvE. If there were to be PvP they'd probably consider it a minor bonus, as long as it's not on even terms. Right now they're getting a little bit tired of farming the old world content and have started a campaign to try to delude the people running the server that Kunark will be the resurrection of this server, though they don't really believe that themselves. They just want a little more content to raid in their own personal playground.
This server is not even remotely close to what PvP was like during 99-01 era of Everquest, you can't emulate the experience when every zone is barren of population. Things will not pick up. Shitty times are ahead.

Vae Victis was nearing 20 players this weekend during Nilly Raids. New players have always come and gone but without help they soon quit. I am trying to change that by helping new players out so they can get a chance at experiencing eq classic pvp. Things are getting better, I just hope new players keep coming/old players returning.

I'm not prophesying, im describing the current state of the server. Your head have been buried in the stand for so long it has long forgot what light is.
If you can't admit and identify that there is a problem, it's unlikely that you'll change it. You are so ignorant that it hurts everytime I have to read a <Nihilum> post. I've had no alignments on this server, as an outside observer I just call it as I see it.
I really hope this server will be successful but right now it is FAR from it, and pretty much NOTHING is pointing in the right direction. The management is passive, the community is happy rallying up in one major guild giving most people who want to start up for the PvP aspect next to NOTHING to look forward to.
Props to Samwise for what he's trying but by the look of things it just seems like his guild will serve as a feeder guild. Pop have increased by a small, small margin since he started up his guild. The server now reaches ~30 concurrent non-Nihilum players on the peak day of the week.

Yes, I do mean that one singled out guild recieved a massive collective punishment for doing something others were confirmed guilty of as well. Other guilds were dealt a slap on the wrist, while one guild was demolished.
I think <Holocaust> are gigantic douchebags and I'm not sad to see them gone per say, but even if I did directly compete against them I would be outraged by how staff handled that situation because it severely cripples their own integrity and as a result of that the potential success of the server.

What impressionable kids like you are ignoring, is the fact that other players that became aware of the bugs regarding dragons, reported them through multiple channels, and did not use them after being told not to.
Other players refused to obey the rules, and were punished.
Its really that simple. Lets put that troll to rest.

Reporting something does not equal a free pass to exploit it until it is fixed/you're told nto to, a pretty important thing you fail to grasp.
You refused to obey the rules, on multiple occasions. Your punishment was a slap on the wrist.
Let me paint another picture for you;
Say I learned how to dupe on this server. I report it to the GM's and while I'm waiting for a response I dupe 10 million pp. GM's get back to me and tell me it's a bannable offense and I stop doing it, how could I know it was against the rules?
Anyone with an ounce of common sense know what you (and Holocaust) did was wrong, though since you did it repeatedly I'd consider your offense worse. Only one of you was dealt a massive penalty. If you can't see what's wrong with that I suppose the only thing one can do is simply ignore you.

Yeah we tried that for like 3 weeks, then we stole the strat from the guild. This happened while you were leveling up.

Read my post again there fella. The difference is huge. Its outright insubordination versus compliance.
Its over. Check mate.
Ps. I wasn't in nihilum then and wouldn't have supported doing it at all.

I'll just point out that when we (nihilum at the time) "reported" nagafen, it was a joke. We pulled him to the bug out spot, fought him knowing he was bugged, looted him, and then "reported" him. So I guess if I go steal from someone and report it I can keep my ill-gotten goods and face no punishment? This horse has been beaten so many times though, see my sig, the GM's know they fucked up it's over nothing can be changed now, but let's not live revisionist history about it.

holocaust ban was a 2-week suspension only because they had stolen their strat from another guild that had been doing the same thing for weeks and weeks with no repercussions because of our fault. the fault of the server staff. so we didn't permanently penalize those players.
