New characters have an empty inventory

Tried making 3 different characters tonight, two dark elves and a gnome(all different classes), all three had a completely empty inventory. If I remember correctly you start with 5 food, 5 drink, guild note, Book of Discord, newbie weapon, and 2 spells if you are a caster class.
